In taking a moment to look back at 2008, it becomes evident that the year was a rather involved affair with big yellow Caterpillar equipment.

Those CATS seemed to be prowling everywhere as we caught sight of them from Victoria backyards and alleyways, not to mention a couple of main drags.   They snuck up on the community in 2008 in broad daylight with nary a blush or apology.

The demolition CATS were bold and fearless as they wiped out all traces of fame and notoriety from the glory days of several old buildings in town.  Other construction equipment was valiant and courageous as it moved in to cover the nakedness of the land with brick and mortar and promise of a new and strengthened future.

We look forward to the New Year as it brings a new grocery store to downtown Victoria, with an accompanying drug store and expansive parking lot.  We look forward to the second sheet of ice at the Victoria Field House.  We look forward to other possibilities that are on the drawing board at this very moment.  Happy New Year, Victoria!

A Year of Catting Around Town

On June 25th, 2008, the old Victoria Café met its demise.  Even the refrigerator was hauled out by the CAT.  The entire array of demolition photos from beginning to end, including nostalgia from the early days, is located in Sue’s Album at www.VictoriaGazette.com.
