To the Editor:

Good morning.  We just received word that the water tower is officially coming down today.  The crane is in place as we speak.

 Jennifer Kretsch, City Clerk

 Victoria, Minnesota

To the Editor:

We hope you and your family have the best holiday season.  Thank you for the great way that you work with people and the way you serve your community.  I have always admired people who do things the way you do.

 Randy Maluchnik

 Carver County Commissioner

To the Editor:

I really enjoy the Gazette as I grew up in the Victoria area.  I see my older brother Ron Holtmeier always has a letter on page 4.  Good story from him about the Victoria Elementary School last month.

 Carol Trick

 Tucson, Arizona

To the Editor:

Some kids chase the puck while others chase their dreams!

On a crystal clear January day, there is nothing better than throwing your stick in the pile and choosing sides for a pond hockey match with your buddies.  As a parent, I wish I could freeze these moments in time for them.  But I know they will hold onto the memories, as I have from my youth.

Our family got involved late, delay-ing the time and financial commitment as we heard the horror stories from friends and older siblings about their experience with ...

 *aromatic hockey gear

 *practice times

 *endless skate sharpenings

 *parent meltdowns

 *equipment outfitting through

   growth years

 *cold dark rinks, leaving parents

numb and in a light deprived stupor.

Now it is hard to imagine a winter without hockey.  Besides this great game, our son has learned many life lessons:

 *responsibility for his own equipment

*individual roles and skills that con-

   tribute to the team

*how to handle yourself in winning

   and losing

 *hard work pays-off over time

*referee calls don’t always go your

   way

 *everyone makes mistakes and often

it’s the person that falls the most

who ends up being the best skater.

Throughout the season, parents are engaged with their kids in a full schedule of practices, games, and tourney road trips.  Whatever social circles parents were accustomed to, take a back seat to hockey.  But before you know it, winter gives way to spring.  The rinks melt away and it’s time for baseball tryouts!

 Tom Struthers, hockey parent

 Victoria, Minnesota

To the Editor:

Christ Victoria Lutheran Church re-ceived a grant for $7,750 from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.  It is part of our Community Connections initiative in which we are striving to connect people in our church community with folks in the greater community.

We’re partnering with other local organizations to make this all happen.  Among them are Gospel Mission, Loaves and Fishes, and Feed My Starving Child-ren.  The three highlighted experiences include a community cleanup in New Orleans, a community discovery in Northern Idaho, and a community con-nection in Alaska.

We’re wondering if you would be interested in running a story on what we’re doing.  Thanks for your time.  Hope to hear from you soon.

 Tim Bayer, Student Pastor/Vicar

 Christ Victorious Lutheran Church

EDITOR’S NOTE:  I like to do stories on many things here in the Victoria area but am unable to get it all on my own accord.  It is therefore wonderful that the commu-nity at large continues to contribute so many photos and so many stories each month about their favorite people and enterprises.  That is often the best option to communicate through the Victoria Gazette.  I appreciate hearing from you.  Thank you for your letter.
