On Trails Near Victoria.  The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum offered free admission to cross-country skiers and snowshoers on New Year’s Eve as part of its “Ar-BRRR-etum” promotion.  With its 8.5 miles of cross-country ski trails and 1.25 miles of snowshoe trails, the Arboretum is a perfect place to enjoy a quick, refreshing loop, burn off those holiday calories, and bid 2007 goodbye.  Arboretum grounds are open every day and normal admission is $7 for adults and free for members.

Winter Scenes in Victoria.  The early December snows covered the fields around Victoria, along with these high bush cranberries.  Don’t forget our feathered friends this winter.  Keep your feeders full.  And dust off those cross-country skis that have been hiding in the garage.

One Hundred and One New Years.  My mother Rosella Schmidt celebrated her 101st birthday this past September 19th. She was born September 19th, 1906.  She lives at Pres-byterian Homes in Spring Park and is doing very well, happy and still enjoys reading.  She wants to finish reading the Bible before she dies.  I think she will live a long time.  She wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, including relatives in Victoria.

Bags of Games Galore.  Victoria Elementary students had the opportunity to participate in a community service activity in December.  They gathered to promote family bonding and togeth-erness.  This project entitled “Games Galore” was sponsored by the Victoria School Student Coalition.  The games were donated to the CAP Agency for distribution to families.

According to Dylan Melby and Betsy Behun, 4th grade members of the Student Coalition, Games Galore was a huge success.  Victoria Lakers helped gather games for many families.  We collected about 150 games for families that needed help with holiday shopping and for families that needed some fun added to their life.  The bags of games were full and heavy.  We hope that the families that received them enjoy them.
