“Should I sign us up for Ladies Day at Torske Klubben?” he asked.

“Of course,” I replied.

“Just thought I’d check,” he says.

“I want that meal!” I confirmed. “I look forward to that white cod and white boiled potato with melted butter and I like to get that ladies’ gift every year. Sign us up!”

He did. The meal was delicious, as always. This annual event at the Interlaken Club is for Torske Klubben members -- all of them of Norwegian ancestry -- and their wives, many of us with percentages of Norwegian ancestry. It’s a holiday gathering after Christmas each year and everyone dresses to the nines, whatever nines are.

The cod should not be called Poor Man’s Lobster, since that moniker implies a secondary position on the list of druthers. Well, I druther find a large thick moist piece of torsk dangling at the end of my fork than a piece of lobster. That tells you how good it is. And I druther dangle my fishhook within these pages of the Gazette than within the waves of a lake. That tells you what kind of a fisherman I am.

But I don’t mind playing with virtual fishhooks, as you can see. Last month I hid the hook in the letter “l” of Floyd’s on page 10. Congratulations, Barb Brown of Mound, for your name was drawn from the minnow bucket to win the $10 prize.

I hid another fishhook in this issue of the Gazette and it’s there for the finding, dangling along with my druthers. In the meantime, watch out for your own druthers. They could be fattening.
