The Scoop

at City Hall

FOURTH TERM FOR MAYOR MARY THUN

NO ABSENTEE  BALLOTS FROM VICTORIA?

Before the polls opened on November 2nd, 2010, there were 4,316 registered voters in the City of Victoria, according to City Clerk Jennifer Kretsch.  When the polls closed that evening, her numbers indicate there were 4,581 registered voters in the City of Victoria.  A total of 3,043 ballots were cast and counted in the City of Victoria on Election Day.  She did not have numbers related to absentee ballots used by Victoria residents, informing the Gazette that the county had this information.  Carver County did not reply to questions from the Gazette about number of absentee ballots cast prior to Election Day. Voter turnout in the City of Victoria was 66.5% -- not including absentee ballots.

Mayor Mary Thun easily won re-election to her fourth term.  Jim Crowley and Tom Strigel, each running unopposed for city councilmember, begin their terms in January.  The December 13th city council meeting is the last scheduled for outgoing Councilmembers Tim Amundsen and Jim Paulsen, each having chosen not to run for re-election.

The City of Victoria has two precincts.  Precinct #1 includes residents north of Highway 5.  Precinct #2 includes residents south of Highway 5.  Voting went as follows.  The starred (*) candidates were the state, county, and city victors.
