To the Editor:

I look forward to continuing to work for our community and was again reminded of what a great city we have when I door knocked and met neighbors in their homes.  I was glad to see so many good people step forward to run for City Council.  We had really great candidates and our residents had good choices.  I know all the candidates worked hard and wanted the privilege to serve.  I hope we can keep those people involved in our “community building” because, as you know so well, we have plenty of opportunities for service.  See you at the next council meeting.

To the Editor:

I learned in your November issue of the Gazette that you grew up in Ghent, MN.  When I was growing up in Osseo (and serving as an altar boy), our priest was Father Henry Boerboom who, I believe, was from Ghent.  He lived with his sister, Theresa, who was his housekeeper, cook, secretary, and the organist at St. Vincent de Paul.  Father Boerboom was pastor at St. Vincent’s from 1917 until 1964!  The park on Central Avenue in  Osseo is named after him.

Sue and I enjoy reading your paper each month.

EDITOR’S NOTE:  Hi, Tim and Sue.  We had fun being with you in New Orleans.  Yes, Fr. Boerboom was from Ghent.  His relatives have married into our family so I have several nieces and nephews with that name.

To the Editor:

This Sunday morning (November 9th), we were all most pleasantly surprised to see a most beautiful bouquet of flowers from the St. Victoria Catholic Parish on our altar, and when I say beautiful, they were outstanding!

As you know, from time to time during the year, I have been reading some history moments from our pastors’ diaries.  It is interesting to note than an entry in Pastor Lorenz Adam’s diary for November 12th, 1968, states, “The ladies of St. Victoria met in our church’s basement to sew rain caps for Vietnam kids.  A big step for ecumenical relations.

So then, will the adoring public also be seeing a picture of the editor from some distant past, since that seems to be your theme this month?????

To the Editor:

I want to thank the voters of the City of Victoria for participating in the recent election and particularly those who voted for me.  My election is a humbling experience and I hope to live up to the trust that has been placed in me.

Congratulations to Mary Thun on her re-election as mayor and to Kim Roden on her re-election to the City Council.  They both have earned the trust of our citizens.  I also want to recognize the dedicated service of Rick Tieden for his selfless dedication to our city during his terms in office.  Victoria is a much better place because of Rick’s service.

Thanks also to the other candidates who participated in the election.  They presented a variety of skills and talents for which they and the citizens of Victoria can be proud.  We are a vibrant city.  I look forward to serving our citizens for the next four years.

To the Editor:

Over the next couple of decades, the population of Carver County is expected to more than double.  This rapid growth, continued development, and increasing diversity challenge us to hold onto the quality of health and wellbeing that has made Carver County a great place to live and work.

Based on the national Healthy Communities model, Carver County Health Partnership accomplishes our work through action teams focused on the county’s most pressing health issues.  Since inception in 2000, the Partnership has touched the lives of thousands of Carver County residents.

I hope to see you on  November 18th at the MN Landscape Arboretum as we discuss creating Communities for a Lifetime and achieving the vision of making Carver County the healthiest county in America.
