Sue’s Album

A symphony of photos

and fewer than a thousand words

at www.VictoriaGazette.com

Picking the Mayor’s Mind by Sue Orsen.  Replied Mayor Tom O’Connor, “There is a strong argument for smaller, more limited government.  Big government costs more and almost always seems to be on the prowl looking for problems to fix.  Smaller government is less expensive and leaves as many decisions as possible to individuals.”

Gone, Not Forgotten by Tom Stumpf, Cowboy Correspondent.  “One of the real joys in life for many of us is the large variety of characters we come into contact with over the years.  I had a bachelor farmer uncle, Alfred, who lived in my hometown and served as a wonderful role model.”

The World Gets Smaller by Chuck Freiberg, Up North Cabin Guy.  “Does the name Vern Steinmetz mean anything to you?  Vern now lives up here.  He knew about me up here in Voyager Village because he gets the Victoria Gazette.  Your paper is widely read and enjoyed.”

Sidelights of the Victoria Lions Tournament Weekend by Lion Kurt Zuppke.  How much was consumed?  “1400 burgers, 600 brats, 600 hotdogs, 500 pork burgers, 400 tacos in a bag, and 600 cases of beer.”

Backlights of the Chaska Firemen’s Park by Sue Orsen.  “In back of the new $25 million Chaska Curling Center, which opened in December 2015, is a world you don’t see very well  from the road, nor from inside the Crooked Pint restaurant.

Pondering the Path of Life by Pastor Kevin Dibbley, Waterbrooke Church.  “We are responsible if we do not ponder the path before us.  God has made us intelligent creatures and He holds us accountable.”

The View from Inside by Sue Orsen.  “And a walk outside, greeting Jim Igel, Steve and son Chris Jesbserg, and Christine Jean pulling the water wagon.”

Cocktails in the Garden by Christie Schlueter, Regular Victoria Visitor.  “I hold garden classes in my garden during the summer and with every class we enjoy new cocktail recipes that I would like to share with you.”

30 Years Ago the Gazette featured Sylvester and Dorleen Schmieg in “You’ve Got to be Kidding!”

20Years Ago the Gazette featured the annual Victoria Lions Tournament Weekend in “Paradise in the Park.”

10 Years Ago the Gazette featured Bobby Goral and John and Danny Lee is “The Victoria House Boys.”

The Genius of American Democracy by Randy Maluchnik, Carver County Commissioner.  “I have often said that the best form of democracy is when everyday folks get together to solve a common challenge.  Over the past month, it happened again in Victoria.”

Midsummer Magic by Sue Orsen/The Victoria Gazette.  “The temperature that Wednesday evening was 94 degrees and climbing, but hundreds of people had Elvis on their calendar and they showed up to see him in downtown Victoria.”  Other midsummer magic included Darlene Wedin at the Victoria Lions Tournament Weekend, Steve Devich and the Cedar Avenue Big Band, Barry Fox and the MN Valley Community Band, and Classic Cars.  Click on Front Page.

Big Checks for Volksfest by Sue Orsen.  “A $5,000 check from the Victoria Lions will pay for the firworks.  A $5,000 check from Paul Carlson of Vic’s Bar and Grill is for general sponsorship of the event.”

Volksfest Almost Here by Randy Miller, President, Victoria Business Association.  “Thanks to the efforts of the VBA, participating businesses, the Volksfest Committee, and our volunteers, we are able to provide a fun family event to the Victoria community for all to enjoy.”

City of Lakes and Parks and Volksfest by Sue Orsen.  “These are the three banners highlighting events at the upcoming Victoria Volksfest, all readily visible on the ballfield fence on Victoria Drive.”

Oh So Fair Victoria by Mike Wartman, Former Resident of Victoria.  “While the State Fair and the Carver County Fair did offer unique amusement and agricultural exhibits, Victoria folks had no need for fairs.

The2016 Coot Open by Mike Wartman.  “It was held on the scenic Victoria playground, Deer Run, and featured 12 foursomes of Victoria’s greatest and ragtag collection of duffers and scruffers.”

The Golden Rule by Tom Abts, Deer Run Golf Pro.  “I think respect for the individual is at the heart of our unique culture, and doing the right things for the right reasons.  It means quality, not cutting corners.  It means living the Golden Rule.

Victoria’s Library Log by Kathy Perschmann, Carver County Library System.  “Tuesday Tunes, Robert the Magician, Dinosaur Roar Storytime, Go Retro Games, Minecraft@Victoria, Volksfest,  and book clubs.
