I remember the first time I met most of the fish I know.  I remember Mr. Bullhead coming out of Dead Coon and Goose Lake, being skinned alive by my dad, and then fried in my mother’s black frying until it was crispy good, including the tail fin.

I remember Mr. Lutefisk coming out of the grocery stores in Minneota and Marshall and then the boiling water and porous cloth for draining before it was drenched with melted butter on my plate.

I remember Mr. Sunfish coming out of Schutz Lake and then Darel Geske’s perfect mixture of flour and cornmeal before it was turned into fried filets more addicting than potato chips.

I remember Mr. Tuna coming out of the Pacific Ocean and then a frying pan in Fred Plocher’s timeshare condo in Hawaii.

I remember Mr. Pickled Northern coming out of the canning jars of Arnold Notermann at the Victoria Village Hall before our meeting of the Victoria Chamber of Commerce.

I remember Mr. Walleye coming out of Canada and brought home to my freezer.  I remember Mr. Salmon coming out of Lake Michigan and canned in my very own pressure cooker.  I remember Mr. Talapia coming out of Costco’s.

And I remember just where I hid my fishhook last month -- in the pant leg of the baseball player on page 34!  Lots of you found it, but only one of you wins the race -- I mean the $10.  Viola Jeurissen of Victoria was pulled from the minnow bucket in the nick of time.  Congratulations, Viola!

There’s another fishhook hidden in this issue of the Gazette.  If you find it, drop a line to P.O. Box 387, Victoria, MN 55386 and sinker in the mail or email Sue@VictoriaGazette.com, telling of its location.

I remember Mr. Minnow coming out of the fish tank in Fred Berg’s basement here in Victoria.  Do you?  Berg’s Bait Shop was the forerunner to Cabin Fever Sporting Goods.  How many fish do you remember meeting for the first time?
