To the Editor: The Carver County Fair is always full of memories. Mom went every year with veggies, flowers, sewing items, antiques, and at her "swan song" in 1990" she got her first and only Grand Champion Ribbon on raspberry wine. Her last year of going to the fair was 1990. In Septem-ber of that year she was diagnosed with lung and bone cancer and she never smoked. She passed away on February 17th, 1991. When Mom was a farm kid she said she entered a cow in the fair, and the cow bolted away and ran all over creation before she found it stuck in the mud. Your fishhook in the August Gazette is on the Carver County Fair ad on page 51. Thanks for the memories. Kay Meuwissen Chaska, Minnesota
To the Editor: Southwest Metro Transit will begin Express Bus Service from Victoria to downtown Minneapolis beginning Sep-tember 15th, 2003. Bus Route #699 will board passengers at the Victoria Field House each weekday morning. The buses will leave the Victoria Field House at 6:10 a.m., 6:39 a.m., and 7:00 a.m. Southwest Metro Transit is adding this service now because of a change in how the bus service is funded. Instead of funding coming from a portion of proper-ty taxes paid by residents of Eden Prairie, Chanhassen, and Chaska, we are now funded by a portion of the taxes paid when people buy a new vehicle. The new service will be cost efficient and pay for itself in order for it to be con-tinued beyond an initial one-year trial period. Residents of Victoria and Waconia, as well as Chaska residents, will also be able to access Southwest Metro Transit's services from a new Park and Ride lot that will open at the Super Target in Chaska on the same day. Bus Route #692 will provide Express service from the Chaska Super Target to Downtown Minneapolis at 6:10 a.m., 6:35 a.m., 7:02 a.m., and 7:25 a.m. each week-day morning. To the Editor: I can't remember the last time I sincerely thanked you for letting me write for your paper. You've given me an amazing opportunity and hopefully I only add to the Gazette. I just want you to know that this is so great for me. I have included it as part of my college applica-tions and also put it on my job resume for the Victoria House. I know that having your name on a reference definitely pulled me through in some places. Thanks for everything, Sue. Kyra Schindler Chaska, Minnesota
To the Editor: Just wanted you to know that dele-gates to the 125th Catholic Aid Conven-tion and celebration from the St. Victoria Catholic Aid were Theresa and Norbert Derhaag, Marge Robling, Nancy Sohns, and Elaine Williams. The event took place at St. John's University at College-ville, Minnesota. Thank you. Elaine Williams Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Your Alaska editorial really struck a chord with me. Our son Tom has made Alaska his home for 20 years, and we feel fortunate to have visited him in the Great land several times. You write so beauti-fully of experiencing the vast grandeur of the place. Jim and I never tire of the lift we experience when we travel there. And I always feel younger after a vacation in Alaska. Hope you get a chance to visit there again. Pat Kovaleski Waconia, Minnesota
To the Editor: Hello to Victoria residents. The School Board will be bringing a referen-dum to voters on November 4th asking for support for a new elementary school, additional space for Chaska High, updat-ing the original ventilation/heating/water systems at Chaska Middle School West, money to purchase land for a future secondary school site, and funds to repair, maintain, and update our current facilities and technology. The Board will also ask for $1.5 million in operating funds to open and operate new spaces and an additional $1.25 million to minimize future program cuts and class size increases due to stag-nant state funding My purpose in writing to you today is to assure you of the Board's intent to place the new elementary school in your community. Victoria's elementary school will be a reality in 2005 if the referendum is successful. District 112 and the City of Victoria have been working toward this shared goal for many months. District 112 currently owns a site in eastern Victoria. City officials are advising that a better location might be on land set for develop-ment west of Deer Run. We can place the building on either site and will make that decision based on the input of Victoria city officials and our architects. To make our commitment to Vic-toria crystal clear, the ballot language for the bond will state that the elementary school will be built in Victoria. There is no changing what voters approve on the ballot. Victoria will be home to the next District 112 elementary school. District 112 will be working hard to offer the facts and background informa-tion voters need to make informed decisions as they vote November 4th. It is my belief that the location of the next elementary school may be the single most important fact of interest to this communi-ty, but you will be receiving much more information in the weeks ahead. I'm looking forward to the opening and dedication of Victoria's elementary school. And if voters approve the Board's request for funding, we'll be scheduling that party for fall, 2005. Bev Stofferahn, Superintendnet School District #112, Chaska, Minnesota
