To the Editor: I've got a group of people at my church (Wooddale in Eden Prairie) pray-ing for individuals in the military. So far we've been praying general prayers and we have a few names of people serving that have been trickling in. When I saw the picture of Steve Sarvi and his family in your September issue of the Gazette, it occurred to me that this would be an outstanding way of getting names and pictures of men and women and their families for our group to pray for. We have a man in our group who is actually a ranking officer in the Marines (I think it's the Marines) who is unable to get us names of people being deployed because of confidentiality. But if there are people from our communities whose families allow their names and pictures to be in the paper, that would be one way around the confidentiality issue. Furthermore, people are free to email me at atnfs@earthlink.net if they have names, and even pictures, of people and their families in the military for our prayer group. Just a thought. Thanks, Sue. To the Editor: Hard to believe the school buses are buzzing around town again. I can still see my mom waking me up at 5:30 in the morning. She'd say, "Get your hinder out of bed, Lady Jane, and get your school clothes in the wash." I'd be drowsy and say, "Ach, why now?" And she'd say, "Ach, I got a bunch of other things to get done. Throw down the dishrags, dishtowels, potholders, bath-room towels, and hurry up!" Mom didn't wake me up at 5:30 a.m. and say that in a quiet voice either. She was plenty audible. She also bellered through the laundry chute, "Ach, are you coming with that stuff yet??" "Yeah, Ma," I'd say. "It's down the chute already." "Ach, yeah, there it is." When I was in kindergarten she would stop me at the front door and check if I had a runny nose. She'd say, "Hold on! You got candlesticks coming again." I always had to wear a red hat that got strapped under the chin and had a huge red tassel ball on top and a bulky coat and boots. I'd pull off that hat when I got up the street and Mom would actually drive up the street to see if I had it on and she'd say, "You dassen't take that hat off!" I felt so nerdy in that hat. That's a pretty "slick" hiding spot (on top of the oil well) for the fishhook on page 35 in the September Gazette. Kay Meuwissen Chaska, Minnesota
To the Editor: Good morning, Sue. Just wanted to say how much I would enjoy writing a column on what is happening at Lowry Nature Center here in Carver Park Re-serve for the Victoria Gazette. Just let me know how long it could be and what the deadlines are. Thank you for this oppor-tunity. Karen Lee Davis Lowry Nature Center Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Hi, Sue. I recently saw a display ad in the Gazette for a house for sale on Lake Bavaria. Could you email me a copy of it? I believe the price was $1,995,000. Thank you. Cindy Robb Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: While we were attending a retreat at the Moravian Camp and Conference Center near Mt. Morris, Wisconsin, a bad storm hit our area and hail damaged our roof and siding that was facing the Kes home here by the Moravian church in Victoria. I hear it was a Sunday morning storm. That would be September 4th. We did not see the damage until I noticed more black appearing on the roof than should have been and some paint missing from the siding. Fortunately our house still is water tight. I have heard of hail damage in other parts of Victoria. We are now waiting for the adjusters to come. We did lose a lot of flowers and some had holes in the leaves. Ron Holtmeier Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Due to the horrendous magnitude of the Katrina disaster, Red Cross is not doing any disaster welfare inquiries unless there is a medical emergency involved. If any resident needs to find a loved one in the hurricane area, they should call the Carver County Red Cross office for assis-tance. American Red Cross disaster assis-tance is free and made possible by volun-tary donations of time and money by the American people. You can help the vic-tims of thousands of disasters across the country each year by making a financial gift to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief fund, which enables the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, counseling, and other assistance to those in need. Make your checks payable to the American Red Cross, with Disaster Relief or Hurricane Katrina in the memo section of the check. Donations can be sent to the local chapter: Carver County Red Cross, P.O. Box 686, Norwood Young America, MN 55368. LaVonne Kroells Carver County Red Cross Norwood Young America, Minnesota
To the Editor: Hi, Sue. I noticed that my name and phone number are still listed in the Vic-toria Directory on the back page of the Gazette. Could you please change that information to the new Lions President Kurt Zuppke? Thanks. Joe Schmieg Victoria, Minnesota
