To the Editor: I hope you and Allan had a good time at this year's Touch of Bavaria. I had fun but as usual not much time to sit back and relax. Other than a few food complaints (the grilling was a bit slower than expect-ed), everyone had a good time. We had a great crowd this year, a lot of new faces, and bunches of families. It was great seeing all the young children this year. The number is in, and it's big! We brought in several thousand dollars. Whoa, we did it! People do read the Gazette. We had a great turnout! To the Editor: Dick Cheney and I are getting ready for what could be a close, hard-fought race. I will use America's power to lead the world to greater security and peace. We must win the war on terrorism and promote freedom around the globe if our children are to live in a more peaceful world. I have acted to strengthen our economy by cutting taxes and restraining government spending. Our economy has suffered a series of shocks. We cut taxes at just the right time to pull us out of recession. Raising taxes now would be bad for American families, American jobs, and America's economy. I will work for a more compassionate society where no child is left behind and where people know they are responsible for their actions, for the children they bring into the world, and for loving a neighbor like they'd like to be loved themselves. These are clear choices. I need your help now to put in place the campaign I need to win a second term. I am honored to serve as your President. George W. Bush, President United States of America PresidentBush@GeorgeWBush.com
To the Editor: The Victoria Chamber of Commerce and all the volunteers should feel very proud. We raised several thousand dollars for our Scholarship Fund at last Satur-day's Touch of Bavaria. Specific profits will be announced at the Chamber's next meeting on Thursday, October 2nd. Please visit our website for pictures of the event on our Home Page at www.victoria-chamber.org as well as the Touch of Bavaria page. We always welcome new members and new ideas. Come to our next meeting and share your thoughts. A nominating committee will be in place to elect the next board, taking office in February. If you are interested in either being on the committee or being on the board, please let any current member know, or come to our October meeting. Thanks. To the Editor: Hi, Sue. Great Touch of Bavaria on Saturday. Best ever, we think. Attached is an endorsement letter for the editorial section of your great newspaper. Marlene and Dave Speltz Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: We are recommending Carlos Galle-go for an open position on the District 112 School Board because of his experience, education, and understanding of the needs of young people. Carlos has worked tirelessly in his leadership roles for the Carver County 4H and Youth programs. In his position as Carver County Diversity Specialist, he continues to prove his leadership abilities in helping to educate those in most need. We have known Carlos and his fam-ily for five years and know he would be an excellent candidate to fill this position. Programs must be planned that meet our school district's needs, both immediate and long range, and Carlos is well quali-fied to get the job done. Carlos has an undergraduate degree in Education from NDSU and a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Minnesota. Please vote for Carlos on November 2nd to fill this School Board position. Dave and Marlene Speltz Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Hi, Sue. I want to thank all the individuals in our community who have helped get the word out to vote YES for the upcoming District 112 Referendum on November 4th. A YES vote will ensure an Elementary School in Victoria since Victoria is in the ballot language. By law, the school has to be built there. This is a referendum we can support and our kids can't afford to lose. If you would like to volunteer, please contact me at 952-443-2306. Gina Holman Citizens Campaign Co-Chair Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: It was in the Star Tribune that Paul Granlund died. He was 77 years old. I happened to meet Dave Kocka at the Post Office this morning and he verified that Paul Granlund did indeed have a shop in Victoria at one time. Dave also mentioned that Mr. Gran-lund helped his son to become interested in making sculptures. His last piece was that of Squire Boone, the brother of Daniel, and is in a cemetery in Indiana and Dave had visited the grave. As an aside, I mentioned that Sutter, on whose land gold was discovered in California in 1848, came on hard times and was be-friended by Moravians in Pennsylvania and is buried in the Moravian cemetery in Lititz, Pennsylvania, and I had visited his grave.
