To the Editor: Thank you for printing the engage-ment announcement for my daughter Lindsay and her fiance Kevin. I would like to correct your editor's note. You mistakenly noted that Cindy is the grand-daughter of the late Arnold and Evelyn Notermann. It should have read that Lindsay is the granddaughter of Evelyn Notermann, who now resides in Waconia, and the late Arnold Notermann. Thank you again for printing the announcement and photo in the Gazette. Cindi Notermann Chaska, Minnesota
To the Editor: I have a friend who lives in Victoria, and a while ago I started reading your Victoria Gazette and I really have enjoyed it. It's very rare to find the kind of com-munity spirit that Victoria has. Sue, your online pictures show that Victoria is beautiful in every season. Thank you for putting the Victoria Gazette on the Internet for everyone to enjoy. Nancy Olson Sacramento, California

To the Editor: Your trip to Alaska sounds wonder-ful. And what a darling picture of your grandbaby. Looks like Grandpa Al. I received the Gazette today and found the fishhook right off! It's on page 26 in the band of the diamond ring of Weinzierl Jewelers. Best wishes. Bernice Brennan West St. Paul, Minnesota

To the Editor: I have always believed that the most important resource our nation has is our children. One of the greatest opportuni-ties we have as a community is to educate our children. Education provides our youth with tools to make informed deci-sions. Informed decisions usually lead to good community and public policy. On November 4th, 2003, you will be asked to vote "YES" on the District 112 Referendum that will, among other things, provide money to build an elementary school in Victoria. So, how much will it cost you? For example, on a $250,000 home, your taxes will increase by approximately $150/year. Is that a lot of money? Certainly. Will you gain any benefits? Yes, absolutely. Regardless of whether you have children, how our community and nation conduct ourselves in the future is vitally dependent on our youth being well edu-cated in a safe environment that encour-ages discovery. And what if you choose to vote no? Certainly, District 112 will continue to the best of its ability to educate our children. However, we will definitely see increased class size in both the elementary and high schools. And the heating/ventilation sys-tem in the Middle School, built in 1963, cannot be replaced. Technology, which keeps our nation competitive, cannot be upgraded. And certainly, no elementary school will be built in Victoria. I believe the reasons for requesting the referendum have been well thought out. I know that District 112's staff has been cut, operational expenses have been decreased, and the District continues to search for additional ways to decrease expenses. This referendum supports what I believe to be important -- an elementary school in Victoria, reasonably sized class-es, and an environment that supports learning and is safe for our children. I encourage you to VOTE on Tues-day, November 4th, 2003. And I encour-age you to vote YES. For more information, call the Dis-trict 112 hotline, 952-556-6115, log onto www.district112.org, or go to the "Citi-zens Campaign for the District 112 Refer-endum" website: www.schools112.org. Sincerely, Mary L. Hershberger Thun Victoria City Councilmember Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: While attending a marriage seminar on communication, Wally and his wife Carolyn listened to the instructor declare, "It is essential that husbands and wives know the things that are important to each other." He addressed the men, "Can you describe your wife's favorite flower?" Wally leaned over, touched Carolyn's arm gently, and whispered, "Pillsbury All-Purpose, isn't it, honey?"
