To the Editor: Minnesotans are fortunate to have the opportunity to elect a man of the caliber of Floyd Calhoun to the school board. Floyd is not only a man of integrity, solid, character, and traditional Christian values, but a man of wisdom and bold action. I have observed that when Floyd believes in "what is right," that he will take appropriate action. Our country desperately needs leaders like Floyd Calhoun. He could truly make a differ-ence in the district where he served. I only wished he lived in Texas. I would vote for him. Merry Ellen Daniel Bedford, Texas
To the Editor: We are recommending Carlos Galle-go for an open position on the District 112 School Board because of his experience, education, and understanding of the needs of young people. Carlos has worked tirelessly in his leadership roles for the Carver County 4H and Youth programs. In his position as Carver County Diversity Specialist, he continues to prove his leadership abilities in helping to educate those in most need. We have known Carlos and his fam-ily for five years and know he would be an excellent candidate to fill this position. Programs must be planned that meet our school district's needs, both immediate and long range, and Carlos is well quali-fied to get the job done. Carlos has an undergraduate degree in Education from NDSU and a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Minnesota. Please vote for Carlos on November 2nd to fill this School Board position. Dave and Marlene Speltz Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: One thing all citizens would probably agree on is that the system that is in place for funding public education is less than perfect. Raising taxes is never pleasant, no matter what the reason. However, I can't think of a better long-term invest-ment than in our most important resource: our children. You are being asked to vote on Tues-day, November 4th, in School District 112's referendum. This referendum is multipurpose. From critical improve-ments in existing buildings (some as basic as water and air quality) to building a new elementary school in Victoria, the needs are great and only you can make it happen. There is a wealth of information available for voters either via the Referen-dum Hotline at 952-556-6115 or on the web at www.district112.org. Please make sure that the legal wording on the ballot, driven by state law, doesn't confuse you. Quesetions #2 and #3 are dependent upon each other. Question #3 must pass in order for the improvements to be made and the school to be built. I am confident that you will find that an educated vote is a "yes" vote on all three questions. Mary Erickson Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Please vote YES! Kids still count! The District 112 Referendum addresses serious needs in our schools, both present and future. As a parent of young children I want to see our schools be among the best in the state. If this referendum fails, our kids face overcrowding and budget cuts that will seriously compromise their education. I urge all voters to get out and vote YES on Tuesday, November 4th. Our children and their futures are depending on us. Kim Anderson Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Excellence. Opportunity. Vision. These are just a few of the reasons we have chosen to have our children attend school in School District 112. Education has been important in both of our lives and we feel fortunate to live in a commu-nity that is supportive of schools and learning. Excellence in District 112 can be viewed in its proactive long-range facili-ties plan, the committed and professional staff members, and many programs de-signed to meet the educational needs of its students. The leadership team continu-ously strives to provide for the present needs of the community and plan ahead for the future. The district does an excellent job. However, they still need the support and involvement of community members. One active means for involvement is a YES vote for the upcoming referendum. A YES vote for each of the referendum questions means that the district can mini-mize future budget cuts, build and operate a new school in VICTORIA, add a house to the current high school, repair and im-prove existing facilities, and secure land for a future secondary school. The board is committed to a fiscally sound plan that will only sell bonds for a building that can open and operate. The bottom line is that a YES vote is needed on all three questions. Ultimately, YES is a vote for the continued excellence of education offered in School District 112. We wholeheartedly support the current referendum efforts and encourage members of the community to join in a YES vote on Tuesday, November 4th. Jonathan and Natalie Larson Victoria, Minnesota
