"School" Letters

To the Editor:
Ten years ago when we moved to Victoria we thought we were becoming "empty nesters."  We learned quickly that, where the concept of community is alive and thriving, the children are really all of ours!
Today we have the only home on our street without school-aged children, and the community around us has very few empty nesters.
Great communities are recognized by the opportunities they provide for the young leaders of tomorrow.  Great com-munities serve the needs of every member as best they can.
The passage of the school referendum on November 4th ensures that a new elementary school will be built in
our community of Victoria.  No longer will our children be bused from 4 to 8 miles away.  They will be "home" in Victoria!
The best thing we can do for our community is to Vote YES to all three questions on our school referendum on Tuesday, November 4th.

To the Editor:
Please join me in enthusiastically supporting my husband Brian Siegel for District 112 School Board.  You'll never know him as well as I do -- especially how wonderful a father he is -- however, most voters in the district have a lot in common with Brian.
In the big picture, if you appreciate a more conservative, practical approach to governance, you'll feel very comfortable voting for Brian.  If, on the other hand, you prefer a more liberal approach, you can still embrace his commitment to making our schools succeed in their mission.  Clearly, the hours our family will lose him each week will be the dis-trict's huge gain.  I'm proud of him, and you will be, too.

To the Editor:
Let's show all of District 112 that Victoria citizens will support the district when given the appropriate chance!
Vote "Yes" for ALL THREE PARTS of the District 112 Referendum.
Support Part 1!
1.  District 112 grows by approxi-mately one classroom every six weeks.
2.  As school board candidate Rod Franks says, "Investing in our students now will provide significant savings to taxpayers later."
Support Part 2!
1.  Victoria already has enough elementary age children to fill a school.
2.  Victoria students are currently being bused (many on the dangerous stretch of Bavaria Road) to schools in Chaska.
3.  Victoria is the only city in the four that make up District 112 that does not have a school.
4.  An elementary school in Victoria would provide a public place for commu-nity education.
5.  The school site would also provide public facilities for large and small meet-ings (think scouts), plus additional athletic fields and gymnasiums.
6.  It is a fact that elementary schools add value to home prices in a community and open space.
7.  The school would at least put a children's library in Victoria.  (Could it possibly be "piggy-backed onto" to build a public library?)
Support Part 3!
1.  No school will be built unless operating funds are approved.  (The District 112 Board does not want a situ-ation like the Chanhassen Library, con-structed but not having staff and book funding approved.)
Vote for ALL FOUR OF THE OPEN SCHOOL BOARD SEATS.
1.  Victoria voters did decide two seats in very close races last year.
2.  As a result, Victoria citizens' voice was heard, and a school for Victoria is in black and white on the referendum.
3.  Finish the job by getting educated on what candidates will remain indepen-dent and critical thinkers if elected to the board.  (I definitely recommend Jack Jensen for the four-year term available.  One of his largest campaign issues is dis-trict inequity within the communities that District 112 serves.)
It's time to walk the walk, Victoria!  Let's do it.

To the Editor:
Mitch Anderson is running for the School Board representative of District 112.  He grew up in Edina but now lives in Chaska with his wife and 5-year old son.  He is a businessman but still takes time to coach soccer and other activities in our school district.  Mitch is now volunteer teaching an aviation course at the middle schools.
Mitch is motivated and reliable.  He would help our school district grow and develop into the best educational system for his son as well as our children.

To the Editor:
I would like to submit a letter to endorse Mr. Floyd Calhoun as a candidate for school board in District 112.
I have known Floyd for about ten years and just recently my husband and I utilized Floyd as our real estate agent for the buying of our new home, which is currently being built, and for the selling of our former home.
Floyd displayed exceptional skills as a realtor/builder and went above and beyond the call of duty.  Everything from the outstanding flyer that he constructed to advertise our former to the advice he gave us on the process of building the new one to being helpful in financial advice, were done with precision, perfection, and integrity.  Floyd consistently keeps him-self abreast of what is going on in his community and elsewhere, and he was willing to share all of that information as we were doing our home search.
As a former teacher, I have been able to work with a number of school boards.  If I were teaching now, Floyd would be the candidate I would choose for District 112 School Board.  I know that he dili-gently takes time to gather all the facts needed for a decision and then he becomes part of the event or process wholeheartedly.
I highly recommend Floyd Calhoun for District #112 School Board.
