To the editor: Thought you might like to know that my April issue of the Gazette only arrived at my mailbox on Friday, April 26th, a little late to get in on the drawing for finding the fishhook. The post office must be delivering mail by pony express. Maybe I would get it faster if my box number was used as well as my street address. Barb Johnson, Sacred Heart, Minnesota
To the Editor: Before fishing and parking your buns in the Crestliner, get your buns over to the Chaska Bakery for a sack of goodies. I like the cherry chip cookies, myself. I have yet to find cherry chips in the baking aisles of the grocery stores. The bride and groom on the wedding cake in the Chaska Bakery ad on page 26 better bring along the tackle box and rod and reel on their fishy honeymoon. Kay Meuwissen, Chaska, Minnesota
To the Editor: Hi, Sue. How are you? Happy Mother's Day. Sorry I didn't write you before but I am really busy over here. On Mother's Day we went to a farm of my uncle and we ate and had a lot of fun. This Thursday is my girlfriend's birthday. I think I'm going to invite her and some friends to a barbecue or some-thing. If you have an idea of what I can do, please let me know. You have good and new ideas about party. Jenny must be married by now. I hope she is really happy, and also you and Al. Kentucky Fried Chicken just opened over here in Cuenca. I'm so happy because that food is good, also Burger King, but not McDonald's and that is the best one. I hope it comes soon. All the people of Ecuador are happy because our soccer team is in the World Cup for the first time. This is a competition where the best go, and it's held every four years. I hope that the U.S. and Ecuador get far. We have to play against Croatia, Italy, and Mexico, great teams, but I have confidence in my team. The U.S. is going to play against Portugal, Korea, and Poland, in the first round. Only two of each group go to the second round. It is said that this is going to be the best World Cup ever because of techno-logy. Also, it's going to be the most watched tournament because China is in the competition too, and that is 1,300 million people, plus Europe, plus U.S.A., plus Nigeria, plus Africa and South America, about 3,500 million people. That is a lot, don't you think? Only 15 days and the soccer party starts. Well, I hope this wasn't too boring for you, this soccer letter. Please write me soon. I haven't heard from you in about two months. God bless you and your family. Bye bye. Xavier Alvarado Cuenca, Ecuador
To the Editor: The leadership of the United States Postal Service has just submitted to Congress a Transformation Plan, a blue-print for how the Postal Service will operate in the future. In the near term, the Postal Service is committed to saving $5 billion over the course of the next five years, enabling us to hold prices steady until 2004. For the long term, we are working with Congress to create a new business model that will redefine the nature of the Postal Service for the next 20 to 30 years. A commercially and financially viable U.S. Postal Service remains vital to the American economy. The Postal Service provides universal mail delivery to the country and delivers more than 207 billion pieces of mail each year to 138 million addresses. This Transformation Plan will enable the Postal Service to maintain universal mail delivery and better serve the American public. If you have any questions or need more information, please contact my representative, Jim Stanley, Public Affairs and Communications, at 314-692-5508. Michael Daley, District Manager, U.S. Postal Service, Minneapolis, MN
To the Editor: Thank you very much for sending me that lively and penetrating article you wrote of my good friend, the late Father Butch Rowan. I already have it in the same book where I keep other writings of my own and a few of other people. If I can presume on your permission, I want to make copies for my classmates and some of my own family. I enjoyed going through your paper and find it well arranged with timely articles and a wide knowledge of the town and the personalities that make up the town. You are doing a great service to your community. You have zeal and ideals that will keep your writing worthy of study. I'm glad Father Bob White writes for your paper. I had him as a student at the St. Paul Seminary. I miss my friend Butch very much. We used to hike a lot together. Our other classmates were either not well or craved other forms of recreation, but we enjoyed hiking for its simplicity and beauty. Enclosed are a few prayers I wrote and put on the back of some of my favorite icons or paintings. Hope you have a place for them in your prayer book. Sincerely, Father Gerry Keefe, St. Joseph's Parish, Hopkins, Minnesota
To the Editor: As a way to keep our information up to date for the public, we would like to consider writing a monthly column for your paper. The articles would contain information highlighting educational opportunities that are available for the adult population. We have had numerous requests to use this avenue of communica-tion and, therefore, feel this would be a service that would be very welcomed by the community. Thank you for your con-sideration. Jeanne Straus, Community Coordinator, Minnetonka, Minnesota
