To the Editor: A special thank you to family, relatives, friends, and neighbors who remembered Donna in any way with prayers, flowers, visits, cards, food, and workers during her illness and for the funeral. The family of Donna Schmieg, Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Best wishes and blessings of the holiday season to you and yours from us and ours. No wonder you get lost driving to and from Indian River. Where the heck is Chamberlain, Wisconsin? I've never heard of it. Jim Larkin, Cumberland, Wisconsin
To the Editor: I am the president of the Victoria Athletic Association. We are starting a baseball academy at the Parks and Rec sport court. We would like to announce to the public what we are doing and extend an invitation for all residents. We would like to ask you to place this article in the Victoria Gazette. I do have a digital picture, but I cannot seem to attach that to this e-mail. Please let me know if there is anything that I can do to help insure that the article is included. Thanks. Have a great holiday. Jim Moss, VAA President, Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: I was saddened and frustrated by a letter written to you last month which used very derogatory language. The events of September 11th were tragic beyond words, but calling people names based on what they wear, as one of your letter writers did, was just plain wrong. How would innocent Arab members of our own city feel reading such words? Let's build a community of respect, not racism. Janet Hoch, Victoria, Minnesota EDITOR'S NOTE: Thank you for writ-ing, Janet. I'm sure it was an unintention-al transgression.
To the Editor: I am pleased to inform you that the Suburban Hennepin Regional Park Dis-trict is changing its common name from Hennepin Parks to Three Rivers Park District. During this exciting transition, we would greatly appreciate your assistance in informing the public of the Park Dis-trict's new identity. The Park District has been consider-ing a name change for a number of years. The common name Hennepin Parks has had many successes, but it does not accu-rately reflect the seven-county geographic distribution of our park properties and has been a source of confusion for the public. The name Three Rivers Park District was approved unanimously on December 6th by our Board of Commissioners. The name was selected with the assistance of a professional naming consultant following considerable public and staff input. The new name reflects the geographic distribution of regional park properties within the watersheds of the Mississippi, Minnesota, and Crow Rivers. It reflects the rich cultural history of these three rivers and how they have shaped our com-munity. The Park District owns and operates parkland in suburban Hennepin, Scott, Carver, and Dakota Counties. It also owns parkland in Anoka, Ramsey, and Wright counties that it currently leases to other agencies. Dawn Sommers, Public Relations Supervisor Three Rivers Park District
To the Editor: Kyra Schindler's article on snow-mobiles brings back a reminder of my first and last ride on a snowmobile. It was only a five-minute ride, but afterwards I was frozen stiff like a corpse. My jaw was so cold I couldn't talk. I was so glad to get home and sip on hot chocolate and get under warm blankets. Suffering succotash, there's a fishhook in the pinecone on page 33 of your December paper. Happy 2002. Kay Meuwissen, Chaska, Minnesota
To the Editor: I recently joined the Victoria Chamber of Commerce and I've had the pleasure of meeting many new friends. Whenever I say I am with Wintergreen Products, I always get a puzzled look. I tell them I created a discount mail order catalog company last October and sell everything from wrapping paper to chocolates and other gifts at 50% to 75% off retail prices. At Wintergreen Products we value your trust and aim to satisfy you in every way possible. Michelle Aspelin, Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: In your December Gazette, Father Bob has a good article about the angel of the movie, "It's a Wonderful Life," and he writes, "It is through our struggles and not our achievements that personal transfor-mation occurs." Jim Larkin writes that in your Civil War, both sides claimed God was with them. And his Charlie proceeds to say, "On the highest level, Christ told us there is no greater love than to lay down our life for another ..." I have a long e-mail from your father, and it is a long time he didn't hear from me. I have to write your parents and I have time now that my Christmas cards are gone. I checked Sue's Album on your website. So nice are the colors in Autumn's Aura. At The Cross in the Woods there is Father Harry and Father Elstan, Holy Mary and Mary Moore, Kateri Tekakwitha, Jesus on the Cross, the first mission church built by the Indians, and Our Lady Sue of the Highway. With the miracle to Mother Angelica and now her poor health, maybe she is the first saint of the third millennium. Love, Father Ferdinand Jennen Hasselt, Belgium
