To the Editor: I would like to make some things per-fectly clear regarding the public/private issue in the City of Victoria. Pointe Vista Drive was developed as a public street and always has been a public street. It was part of the Deer Run project, but it did include a caveat on snow removal. The snow removal was to be done by the Homeowners Association if the city could not handle it properly. In fact, the city has always plowed the street with the exception of the very end of the cul de sac. The Pointe Visa Homeowners snow removal contractor has always done the end of the cul de sac, plowing so the driveways would not be plowed in by the city. We continue to operate that way today. The Green Crest development was built by Darel Geske, a different develop-er than the Fred Plocher group that devel-oped the rest of Deer Run. The Green Crest streets were developed differently from the other city streets. Their cul de sacs were put in with islands and a totally different design. They may or may not have been built to City Code; I do not know. My point is simple. Point Vista Drive is and always has been a public street. I wish others would refrain from using Pointe Vista Drive as a comparison to other streets that may or may not be public. Sincerely, Steve Leighton, President, Pointe Vista Homeowners Assoc. Victoria, Minnesota EDITOR'S NOTE: Green Crest Drive has been deemed public with a caveat on snow removal, now defunct, not unlike Pointe Vista Drive.
To the Editor: It sure was great seeing you again tonight at the Victoria Lions gathering and having Governor Al Quie there. Thank Allan for inviting him. Strangest thing happened. I bought his book, and he signed it with my favorite Bible verse. I didn't notice it until I got home. Please send me his address so I can reply to him. Jan Olinger Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: If you are like me, you are really very happy that the 2006 elections are finally over. I also hope you share my good feel-ings about how elections in Minnesota are run. No matter the outcome, our elections are clean and fair and participatory. I am thrilled to partner with and learn from Liz Anderson in Victoria, Precinct 2. Liz is so knowledgeable about elections and process and procedures. All of our volunteer judges are wonderful. All put in many training hours to become certified to run our elections, to insure they are clean and fair and participatory. But most of all, it is our Victoria City Clerk, Jennifer (Jenny) Kretsch, who is the glue that makes the whole election process work and work seamlessly. Jen puts in unimaginable hours to make an election seem effortless, but the effort is Herculean. And through it all, she re-mains calm, gracious under pressure, and in good spirits. So let me publicly say, "Thank you, Jenny Kretsch." Candace H. Souweine, Co-Head Judge Victoria Precinct 2
To the Editor: Hi, Sue. I just love your paper. Whenever I'm about to read it, I give myself a good 35 minutes just so I can enjoy reading it from cover to cover. I know exactly what you mean about flying and having to talk through those earphones, not realizing you are yelling. When we fly over to Hungary to do mission work at the orphanage, we laugh about doing the same thing. Your editori-al was great. I got a great laugh out of Tom Stumpf's column this past month, about mixing "contemporary" music with Christian music. We do it all the time at Waterbrooke and this month the ecumeni-cal service is at Waterbrooke. I sure hope Tom comes. We had a visiting preacher a couple of weeks ago, and he gave us a wonderful compliment. He said, "Many churches sing, but at Waterbrooke they worship." I guess that says it all. Keep up the good work. Be blessed. Maureen Bonner, Waterbrooke Fellowship] Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: I want to thank the people of Victoria for electing me as their Mayor. I consider it a privilege to be elected to serve the citizens of Victoria. The past four years, during which I have served as one of Victoria's city councilmembers, have been filled with opportunities to learn, meet many new people, and to share in the growth of our future. As your Mayor, I look forward to working closely with new councilmem-bers Tim Amundsen and Jim Paulsen, as well as continuing to work with returning councilmembers Kim Roden and Rick Tieden. Together, with our city staff, we have an awesome responsibility to the City of Victoria. Please continue to visit our city's website www.ci.victoria.mn.us and my website www.hershbergerthun.org. Thank you for your trust and confidence. Mary Hershberger Thun Victoria City Councilmember and Mayor-Elect, Victoria, Minnesota
