To the Editor: Teddy Bear on page 20 of your July issue better not get too close to the fish-hook or he will have to get a tetanus shot at the vet. Maybe he will do what the old time farmers used to do - step into the cow pies! That was an old remedy: If you step on a nail, put your foot into a cow pie. They claim it prevents infection. I'd say it would promote infection. County Fair time, State Fair time, Renaissance Fair time, Church Festival time, shindigs all over. I can still see my mom with a trunk load of fair entries, flowers, veggies, sewing, antiques. She'd have a load of blue ribbons for her effort. Her swan song at the fair in 1990 was when she won her first Grand Champion Ribbon on raspberry wine. Mom remembered as a kid she entered a cow. It bolted away and she chased it and she and the cow got stuck in the mud. I've had to chase my dog Missy. Missy was so strong she went ballistic when a groundhog was in the area - rabbits and squirrels too. With the previous dog we had a paint can filled with cement and an eyebolt in there and the dog chain attached. The pain can/cement anchor was in the ground with previous dog. Then comes Missy, part chocolate lab and Springer. Missy, that heifer, pulled the paint can/cement anchor out of the ground and ran off to chase the groundhog. I could hear a thump noise and the neighbors laughing like crazy. Missy got the groundhog in her mouth and as usual performed her own funeral. Anything she would catch, she'd bury it herself. When we got Missy she was the runt of the litter. Like Mom would say, she's like a bull in a china closet. I wish I had a video of Missy's mischief. She reminded me of the Tasmanian devil on Bugs Bunny. Kay Meuwissen Chaska, Minnesota

To the Editor: My name is Sandra Jones and I am a volunteer with the Carver County Red Cross. I am involved with an upcoming fundraising event in October in Carver County. I would like to find out what the costs of advertising with your newspaper would be. Our committee would like to place an ad. Any information you could provide would be helpful. To the Editor: My name is Mike Grogan. I am the team manager/player of Baylow's Junk Yard Dog's (Softball) Team. We play Wednesday night at the Victoria Lions Ballfield. I just want to take a minute to let you know of the outstanding job that Kristy Mock does in organizing and run-ning this league. I have played on and managed a lot of teams in a lot of leagues over the past 20 years or so. I have seen some very well run leagues and some very poorly run leagues, and I must say the latter does not apply to our Victoria league. It is by far the best I have ever been part of, hands down. From the pre-season meeting to the weekly regular season standings updates to communicating any important informa-tion such as weather line - and just being at the fields making her presence felt on Wednesday nights -- all of this sets Kristy apart. I love to tell people that I play soft-ball in Victoria. Our team has been together for quite some time. Most of us are old guys play-ing a game we love to play and we love to play it in Victoria! Thanks for running a great league, Kristy. Mike Grogan, Baylows Junk Yard Dogs Chanhassen, Minnesota

To the Editor: The City of Victoria invites you to attend a Walkable Community Workshop. This workshop is part of an effort to make our community more pedestrian and bicycle friendly. The workshop is being presented by Carver County Public Health and the City of Victoria. We believe you can help us develop realistic strategies to make our community a safe and more pleasant place to walk and bike and thereby improve the health of our residents. At the workshop we will learn more about successful pedestrian and bike design, safety, education, enforcement, and encouragement. We will relate these concepts specifically to the City of Vic-toria by studying a walking area during the workshop. A walking audit from City Hall to the Field House will help us understand and identify obstacles to walking and suggest potential short term and long term solu-tions. Please wear comfortable shoes and clothing suitable for the weather that day. We hope you will be able to partici-pate in this important workshop on Tues-day, August 21st.
