To the Editor: If any of your readers have the time and desire to serve in a specialized volun-teer capacity, we'd love to hear from you. Ridgeview Medical Center is seeking caring individuals who would like to serve as Home Care/Hospice Volunteers. Hospice involves caring for patients in their own home the last six months of life. Working along with the medical team, Hospice volunteers provide support and companionship for terminally ill patients and their families, making it possible for family members to support their loved one. The volunteer is responsible to pro-vide their own transportation. The six-week training program, which is required for each volunteer, will be offered Tues-day evenings, April 6th through May 11th. The application process, which in-cludes an interview, needs to be complet-ed prior to attending. If interested, please contact me at Ridgeview Medical Center, 952-442-21291, Ext. #5572. SueDeGolier Director of Volunteer Services Waconia, Minnesota
To the Editor: Our community theater group, the Prior Lake Players, is currently producing the musical "Paint Your Wagon." The performances are on many Mach weekend evenings at the Oak Ridge Elementary School in lovely Prior Lake. Tickets can be purchased at the door. I get to play a lonely miner, and I try to sing and dance. Tom Barnett from lovely Chaska is also in the show. If you have a free moment, come out and watch the show. It has been a very Waiting for Guffman-like experience, if you are familiar with that movie. Please forward this along to others you may know who may have interest. In addition to shameless self-promotion, this is my first effort in attacking the email list. Mike Wartman Prior Lake, Minnesota EDITOR'S NOTE: Hello, talented person! Next year give us a little more notice about your stage performance, and all of Victoria may show up in lovely Prior Lake to hoot an' holler fer ya.
To the Editor: Just a quick message to communicate that plans are developed nicely for the staging of the 2004 Holy Family Catholic High School "Spirit of Fire" Dinner Auction. This year's event, scheduled to be held Saturday, April 3rd, is under the capable leadership of auction co-chairs Sue Morris and Laurie Forner, and an array of dedicated committee leaders and volunteers. To date, with over 270 attendees registered and confirmed, we are all on our way to surpassing our attendance goals. Thanks so much for your ongoing support and involvement. Al Bill, HFCHS Vice President for Development, Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Thank you for the color photo of us at the Victoria Fishing Contest. Enclosed is payment for Father Fred Schneider's sub-scription. He told me he doesn't receive it anymore. Must be since he moved to Illinois. Recently a Hippa Law was passed. The issue is privacy. Now at least some of the hospitals I visit will not allow clergymen to see the list of patients. People have to notify clergymen if a clergy visit is desired. However, nursing homes publish names and individual rooms on bulletin boards. Enclosed is an interesting article on the life of Mel Gibson. Perhaps you have not seen it. I saw The Passion of the Christ movie two times. God bless your work, too. Father Conran Schneider, OFM Chaska, Minnesota
To the Editor: The Victoria Gazette is the best value in America. Dan Herbst Eden Prairie, Minnesota
To the Editor: Hey, Sue, thanks for the coffee. And thanks for the ink. Got a call today from one of your readers who enjoyed the story and was thankful for the information. Watch your mail for a subscription check and an invitation to our reception/reading at The Loft in downtown Minneapolis. See ya. Jerry Mevissen Nimrod, Minnesota
To the Editor: We went to Texas to help celebrate one of our granddaughter's 30th birthday. It was nice to see spring! On the way home we spent several days in Salina, Kansas, and did some exploring in the area. We spent a chunk of one day in Lindsborg, Kansas. It has a Swedish history. While having lunch, I noted a guy with a Vikings shirt and struck up a conversation with him and his wife. She said she knows you. Her name is Kay Larson and she now lives in Kansas. Now is that not an unusual circumstance?! Ron Holtmeier Victoria, Minnesota EDITOR'S NOTE: Allan and I graduated from Minneota High School with Kay Klein who married and became Kay Larson. I bet it's the same one. I'm reminded of that musical ride through Disney World. You know which one.
To the Editor: Your editorial last month on The Passion of the Christ by Mel Gibson is entirely on target. Congratulations. And you are right about EWTN [being a great educator in the faith, that the network steers us to excellent books and authors, and that it teaches the truth]. Regrettably, I don't get it on my cable in Manhattan. Cordially, (The Rev.) Richard John Neuhaus First Things, Editor, New York, New York Click here to continue.
