Picking the Mayor’s Mind by Sue Orsen.  Replied Mayor Tom O’Connor, “I believe it’s only a matter of time before the right situations emerges.  It is true, however, that a grocery store in Victoria is not imminent.”

Tony and Sally’s Home Razed to the Ground by Sue Orsen.  “A couple months ago, the rambler on Kochia Lane was surrounded by majestic oak trees and towering evergreens.  Some people didn’t know there was a house on those 40 acres until the trees disappeared in September 2016.”

Halloween & Birth Order  in Victoria by Mike Wartman, former resident of Victoria.  “Costume choice for Trick or Treat has been discussed numerous times over the years, but the real reason for the choice must now be revealed as tied to birth order in Victoria families.”

Hartmans Continue to Raise the Bar(n) by Sue Orsen.   “It’s more than a barn raising.  It’s a barn relocation — which means deconstruction and reconstruction.  Pieces are numbered as the barn is taken down, carefully stored, and then put back together by number at their new home.”

Carver County is Stable by Randy Maluchnik, Carver County Commissioner.  “The 2017 budget year marks the 12th consecutive year that county taxes on an average-value home will decrease or remain the same.  The 2017 preliminary tax levy of $51,649,000 is an increase of about 2.8% over the 2016 levy.”

Dead Flies in Our Lives by Pastor Kevin Dibbley, Waterbrooke Church.  “Ecclesiastes 10:1 states quite descriptively, ‘As dead flies make the perfumer’s ointment give off a stench, so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor.’  A few dead flies in your perfume, or just one in your soup, can quickly turn a good thing into something quite unpleasant.”

Victoria Lions Golf Tournament by Victoria Lion Kurt Zuppke.   “It took place August 30th at the Deer Run Golf Course.  Golfer Scott Koller drained an 85-foot putt at the Putting Green Contest.”

Dealing with Heat and Humidity in Midsummer 2016 by Sue Orsen.  “Sophia and Mia show Grandma Sue how they stay cool on a hot summer day.  Gunnar and his big sister Addie do handstands in the pool for Grandma Sue.”

Window on the Watershed by Bill Olson, Victoria, MCWD.  “There is a phrase we use at the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District, where I represent Carver County on the Board of Managers:  ‘Every curb is a shoreline.’  When it rains, water picks up everything along the curb and sidewalk and carries it untreated through a storm drain and into a nearby water body.”

Final Classic Cars Until Next Year by Sue Orsen.  “It ended the way it began, with two more perfect 2016 evenings in downtown Victoria.  Over 400 cars and more than 1,000 people filled the streets and enjoyed the last hurrah for Classic Car Night until 2017.”

Popping Pumpkin Delights by Christie Schlueter, Regular Victoria Visitor.  “With all the rage about pumpkin drinks, it is time to know that there is so much more about pumpkin than a latte or shake.  Pumpkin is a very healthy vegetable that is versatile and can be served many ways.”

2016 CHS Hall of Famers by CHS Committee.  “Chaska High School held its Class of 2016 Hall of Fame ceremony honoring six people, three of them with strong ties to Victoria:  Julie Plocher Mattson, Lisa Hilgers Brueggemeier, Jim Hansel, Chad and Miriam Junker, Spencer Tollackson.”

Keeping Time from the book.  “Brian Dixon, pastor of the Moravian Church of Lake Auburn in Victoria, is the author of a new book entitled Keeping Time, Dances to the bet of a Different Drummer.  It is an invitation to dance in the Spirit.”

Lady in the Moon from the book.  “Connie Szarke, former French teacher at the Chaska High School and award winning author, wrote a new book, Lady in the Moon, a Novel in Stories.”

The President by Gunnar Norgaard, 11.  “If I was ever elected President of the United States, I would stop the IRS and stop Hillary.  I would have better school systems, more churches, and less waste.”

Arnie 1929-2016 by Tom Abts, Deer Run Golf Pro. Arnold Palmer passed away Sept. 26th.  He was 87 years old.
