King Ron Holtmeier.  On Sunday, February 24th, the Pleasant Valley 4H Club sponsored the 7th Annual Senior Prom at Westview Acres in Waconia, where several Victoria people reside.  The theme, which was "Around the World in 80 Days," was wonderfully carried out with decorations, attire, refreshments, pictures, and entertainment.

Tenants of Westview voted for our royalty, King Ron Holtmeier and Queen Irma Smith.  King Ron and his wife Harriet moved from their longtime home in Victoria to Westview Acres last September 2012.  They are enjoying the socialization, meals, and the wide variety of activities that are offered at Westview.

Champions at Chaska and Oakdale.  The CAA girls 5th grade White team won the championship in the Chaska Super Classic Basketball Tournament held in Chaska February 2nd and 3rd.  Our team beat Armstrong, which is the New Hope/Robbinsdale area, East Ridge, which is Woodbury, and Glencoe/Silver Lake to earn the championship in the 5th grade C division.

During the weekend of February 16th and 17th, the team finished their regular season with another win.  They played in Oakdale at the Tartan Classic Tournament, beating teams from Rochester, Spring Lake Park, and North St. Paul.  Our team is through the Chanhassen Athletic Association which serves all District 112 cities.  We also have players from Carver and Chanhassen.  I help manage the team.

Winter Camporee. Our troop participated as a Host Troop for the Lake Minnetonka Boy Scout District Winter Camporee held at Baker Park Reserve in Maple Plain on Saturday, February 9th.  Our troop organized and held an ice fishing contest for over 80 scouts.  As part of their fishing merit badge, the scouts attended a classroom session in a 17 by 17-foot tent, tried their luck at catching fish, and, when successful, were taught how to clean their catch.

Donated fishing equipment was given to the scouts as prizes for their efforts.  We wish to thank Cabin Fever Sporting Goods of Victoria, Wayzata Bait, and Dick's Sporting Goods of Minnetonka for their generous donations of equipment, bait, and prizes.  A special thank you to Leon Stueve of Albany for providing the shelter and equipment.

John Gaida, Assistant Scout Master Troop #337

         Victoria, Minnesota
