Emily Pate of Victoria was awarded the UPHA Arabian Breed Equitation College Scholarship award Januar18th in Chicago, ILL. She was awarded a $2,500 college scholarship at the UPHA (United Professionals Horse Association) Annual Awards Banquet. Emily has been riding and competing at Cedar Ridge Arabians since the age of 7. The scholarship award focused on Emily's Equitation riding, raising funds for the Arabian Horsemen's Distress Fund and volunteering numerous hours at a variety of charities such as We Can Ride, Feed My Starving Children, and church charities. 1st in Varsity and JV. The Holy Family Fire dance team was just that, on fire, at the Wright County Conference Jazz Meet on Thursday, January 9th, held at Holy Family Catholic High School in Victoria. The Fire dance team took home first place in both Varsity and JV. Along with Holy Family, competing varsity teams included Waconia, Hutchinson, Litchfield, Orono, New London-Spicer, Mound-Westonka, and Delano. JV teams consisted of Hutchinson, Orono, and Mound-Westonka. Varsity again took first at the Waconia Inivite at Waconia High School on Saturday, January 11th, while JV brought home second. The Varsity Kick team (not pictured) placed third. Ready to Remodel. Island View Golf Club is getting a new look as Kevin and I say Goodbye to the Old. Starting February 3rd, Island View will be remodeling the bar/grille area with the installation of new windows, a fireplace, new lighting, and a new bar. As the lessees, we are very excited for the coming new look. The restaurant (Island View Dining) will be open during part of the construction. Come and see us! We will only be closed from February 24th to March 7th to finish the remodel. ~Kim Heenie, Victoria, Minnesota
January's Christmas Trees. On Saturday, January 4th, the Victoria Boy Scout Troop 337 held their annual Christmas Tree Collection in the City of Chanhassen. The scouts collected a total of 379 trees and delivered them to the Carver County Environmental Center for recycling.
