To the Editor:

Warmest wishes for Christmas and the New Year to Editor Sue and family and also all the Gazette readers and friends.  Found the fishhook last month on page 36 on the Chaska Community Center ad.

To the Editor:

Once again we find ourselves in the Holiday Season, that special time of year when we join with family and friends in sharing the traditions of the season.  When you are planning your holiday shopping this season, please don't forget those who are less fortunate.  As the year ends it brings no greater pleasure than the opportunity to express our gratitude to the community for their continued support of Victoria businesses.

To the Editor:

I had to chuckle to myself, thinking that you might be psychic.  I received a letter from my granddaughter's kindergarten teacher in Hudson, Iowa, asking for remembrances of our first year of school and wanting pictures.

I open the November issue of the Victoria Gazette, page through it, and there's a picture of my grade school, St. Victoria, on the Remember When page.  So thanks for getting your shoebox out once again.  My dad and mom kept my 1st grade picture so in Riese's kindergarten classroom, there will be pictures from 60 years ago in Victoria hanging on a bulletin board.

To the Editor:

Hello from the Rio Grande Valley in Deep South Texas.  I got out of "Dodge" Sunday afternoon November 9th, barely ahead of the first snow storm of the season.  Just did not want to see snow, as I have many memories of that throughout my lifetime.

I needed to get to Texas as I had an upcoming cowboy poetry gig at the King Ranch in Kingsville, Texas, on November 22nd which is a fundraiser for Kingsville Texas Posada raising funds to provide gifts  and food for the less fortunate in the Kingsville area.  Can you imagine preparing and serving on average 4,000 breakfasts as well as having a working ranch rodeo?

A working ranch rodeo differs from a regular rodeo as there are no bucking broncs or bull riding events, but rather what the cowboys actually do on a working ranch.  The King Ranch has seven divisions and this is an annual event where the cowboys compete with one another for bragging rights and silver buckles.

Just a few words to tell you how much I enjoy the Gazette, and how in my opinion you are an unsung hero for publishing such a fine paper, focusing as you do on local people of the community.

Betty and I moved to Minnesota in 1977, being transferred by the company we worked for, leaving an area and community in Ohio where all our relatives lived along with many friends over the years.

Leaving all these people behind leaves a void in your life.  Your stories in the Gazette these many years and the people you write about, in many ways, fill that empty space as you can relate to people just like that "back home."

Others who have moved away from "home" may have experienced that as well.  While the stories vary some, people do not, so when you relate to their experiences, you can see folks and families back home just like that.

Enclosed is a payment for the Gazette.  Kindest personal greetings to both you and Allan.  Hope you had a great Thanksgiving and I want to wish both of you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

To the Editor:

Twenty years ago Mount Olivet Rolling Acres began downsizing the Victoria campus by opening four- and six-person community homes to better serve our long term residential clients.

Community homes offer the kind of family setting that we know enhances quality of life with more space and privacy.  Today we have 25 community homes throughout the West metro, thanks to the generosity of many donors.

Our newest home is in Mayer,  MN.  It opened last summer.  Additional community homes are needed as we continue the campus downsizing.  Fundraising helps us purchase furnishings, transportation, and other home necessities.  It also provides resources for resident outings and entertainment.
