To the Editor:

I want to thank you for highlighting Mayor O'Connor's visit to Victoria Elementary School last month.  The 3rd graders were very excited to see themselves in the paper.  It meant a lot to the 3rd grade teachers that you presented such a nice article about our school.

To the Editor:

That was a nice picture of Janie Jasin and Clarence Kelzer dancing, even with the fishhook on Clarence's shoulder.  Happy Thanksgiving.

To the Editor:

I was wondering if I can find the Victoria Gazette anywhere in Waconia.  Would like to get a copy or two, with Gordon Diethelm's obituary in it.  Please let me know.

To the Editor:

Merry Christmas to one and all, especially the Gazette gang and readers of the Gazette.

Clarence Kelzer will be plenty cold and full of goosebumps if he goes ice fishing in his lederhosen on page 41 in the November paper.  The fishhook is on his arm.  Mom liked polka dancing in her younger days.  She would go to the old Valley Ballroom which was in Chaska by the Hwy 41 bridge.  Everywhere she went, she listened to polka music.

Her last car had AM-FM stereo speakers in the back window area.  Any Sunday outing, going to church, Carver County Fair, delivering newspapers to elderly shut-ins, there was polka music and always in the kitchen, too.  She had a stash of polka albums -- Whoopie John, Dale Pexa, Polka Padre with his autograph.  Now I got them with my stash of albums and 45 records of rock and roll oldies -- Connie Frances, Ricky Nelson, Elvis.  Still playable, and Nat King Cole, too.  I still have a Casey Jones record from its last year of the show in 1973 and it's still playable.  When I'd come home at noon from kindergarten, I'm watching Casey Jones on TV and Ma at the sewing machine with her hair in curlers playing, what else, polka music.

When Ma would dress up as Santa and go make her rounds in the evening, then it's Christmas music on the car radio.  Knowing Rosie Claus, she'd rather hear polkas.

I haven't seen Delbert Schmieg since his high school graduation.  Saw him and his family on page 23 in the November paper.  I'd guess they go through a lot of moo juice, like Aunt Franny and Uncle Ray Schmieg did years ago.

To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  Thanks for printing the story last month from Colonel Ayotte entitled "A Veteran's Thank You to the Nation's Warriors."  He has an incredible family serving this great nation of ours and they deserve a huge Thank You from all of us.  I don't think people really understand the many sacrifices a soldier goes through serving the country.  There are no noble wars, just noble warriors.

To the Editor:

Three Rivers Park District held a special permit shotgun deer hunt in Carver Park Reserve on November 16th and 17th.  The hunt was conducted to reduce the deer population within the park.  The park was closed for all activities during the hunt.  A number of precautions were taken to ensure the safety of nearby residents as well as hunters.  We posted the boundaries of the hunt and setback from the actual park boundaries for protection.

All hunters participating attended an orientation prior to the hunt and checked in and out each day.  Park police were on duty to respond to any problems.  The check station and headquarters were at the Carver Park maintenance shop, staffed from 6 am. to 6 p.m. on both days.

To the Editor:

I am the new Director of Admissions here at Southwest Christian High School.  I look forward to working with you.  Maybe you could provide me with a little history on your connection with SWCHS.  This will help me as I continue the learning process in this new role.
