To the Editor:

We have sold our wonderful home on Lilac Lane. It is a bittersweet moment for us as our 12 years here have been wonderful but we are ready to start our "snowless life." We close on August 30th. We are heading to Florida in mid July in hopes of lining up a short term rental or even buy a home. We looked in mid May and there are lots of home for sale there that will work for us. We appreciate our wonderful neighbors and will keep you in touch with updates as we go. We have not met the buyers. They are reportedly a very nice couple who absolutely love the house and the location. I am sure they will be welcomed with open arms by this great neighborhood.

August already! A smorgasbord of state fairs, county fairs, and church festivals! Mom always went to the Carver County Fair. They'd know her right away on Entry Day when she brings in her exhibits. They'd say, "Yep, here comes Rosie Meuwissen."

Mom was in 4H as a farm kid. She told us kids about the time when she was a kid entering a cow and it bolted away from its pen. Mom chased the cow around the fairgrounds and found it in the mud moo-ing and bellering.

I can just see my mom chasing a cow, almost like me chasing my dog Missy when she nabbed a groundhog and I'd have a shovel and a five-gallon bucket ready to bury it. But, nope, Missy wanted to be the undertaker, so up into Bill Schalow's old cornfield she goes, digs a six-foot hole, plops it in, and pushes the dirt back in with her nose. Any other dog we had just left it sit and I'd bury it myself. When Missy is done with the groundhog funeral, she comes back to her water dish and swirls her nose around in the water, then blows water out of her nose like a hippo. I wish I had a video camera. She was a goofy dog. I've never had a dog that liked apples or bananas until I had Missy.
