The Scoop

at City Hall

Victoria’s Farmers’ Market.  It opened in June of this year and people are coming out of the woodwork (the Big Woods?) to visit the Victoria Farmers’ Market every Wednesday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Hartman Garden Center on Bavaria Road in Victoria.  How did the Hartmans come to spearhead and sponsor this large endeavor on their own?  Said Debby Hartman Wrolson, “I made thousands of calls beginning in March and it paid off.”  Over a dozen vendors exhibit their wares and homegrown produce and fresh flowers at the Victoria Farmers’ Market.

Photographed above are (l-r) Leslie Hartman (wife of Jeff), Shawn Ludwig (Tree Farm employee),and Debby (wife of Darryl Wrolson).  In the photo below is Victoria vendor (and former Victoria mayor) David Boorsma and grandchildren.  ~S.O.

The New Holy Family logo was painted onto the floor of the Slattery Athletic and Convocation Center with a process that began June 28th.  It is now completed and the floor will be open for use on August 3rd after curing.  A decal is used as a stencil, but then pulled up after taping it out.  The floor was completely painted and finished by Athletic Performance Solutions out of St. Paul.  Every ten years they suggest that you refinish the floor to lengthen its life.  Since it’s our 10th anniversary, we thought it was an excellent time to go ahead and add the logo.

The logo was adopted in April 2009 to help brand Holy Family Athletics and Activities consistently.  All the sports teams at Holy Family are called the Fire.  The Business Impact Group out of Chanhassen designed the logo with the guidance of Therese Bartlett, Holy Family’s Communication Director.  Business Impact Groups works with NBC Sports, Best Buy, and other major national brands.

Our gymnasium is named after Bill and Joan Slattery, who have long been supporters of Catholic education.  Bill was a graduate of Notre Dame and a chief administrative officer for Northwest Airlines.  He has been involved in Holy Family from the very beginning, over ten years ago, working on planning committees and chairing capital campaigns to help build our school.  In addition, throughout the past ten years, Bill and Joan Slattery have made a number of major gifts to our school.  It was out of gratitude for their extraordinary dedication and their extreme generosity to our school that we decided to honor them by naming the gymnasium the Slattery Athletic and Convocation Center.

Dream Season.  The Chaska 12AAA metro traveling baseball team recently won both the MYAS Gopher State and MBT Minnesota State Boys Baseball Tournaments!  The boys go down in the history book.  No other team has won both state tournaments in the same season.

The boys picked up the coveted Jostens’ customized championship ring for winning the Gopher State Championship and custom watches for winning the MBT Championship.

The team took home 7 championships this summer also, winning tournaments in Woodbury, Green Isle (WoodBat), Edina, Waite Park, and the regular season Metro Baseball League Division 1 Championship.  Their overall record for this summer stands at 43-9.  Next up for the boys, they travel to Coopers-town, New York, for a national tournament.
