To the Editor: Your editorial on where does the time go, how old things are replaced with new, all who read that letter will understand what you mean. A very good letter on all your subjects. Sue, you have a good memory on now and then. Keep up the good writing. Oh, yes, those lawn chairs on the Timberwall ad look good, and one has a large fishhook hanging onto it! Have a great day. Marie Otten Waconia, Minnesota
To the Editor: I have two friends who want to get the Gazette. I’m sending you a check and the addresses for Helen Hilgers of Cologne and Leon and Marcie Wickenhauser of Cologne. Thank you. Harriet Meuleners Cologne, Minnesota
To the Editor: Hi, Mom. Addie is in the bathtub right now. I just washed her hair and while I was in there, I said, “Grandma Sue wants to squeeze you.” Addie said, “Good, because I want to squeeze Grandma Sue, too.” I said, “Well you’ll get to do that in ten days.” She said, “That’s a week and three days. That’s a very long time.” I booked our tickets. Train arrives Friday morning, August 7th, at 7:05 a.m. See you soon. Good night. Love, Jenny Tioga, North Dakota
To the Editor: We would like to thank all of the donors, volunteers, and the Lions who made our July 2009 blood drive a success. We collected a total of 110 units for the American Red Cross! Thanks to all and hope to see you again in January. Wendy Amundsen/Kathy Sether Bloomobile Co-chairs Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: In your May issue of the Gazette there was an article about Colonel Jim Hay of Victoria who is stationed in Iraq. He was interested in receiving stuffed animals for the children they come in contact with. I’m involved with the Chaska Auxiliary Unit #57 and we have been collecting items to send to him. However, before I actually put them in the mail, I was wondering if you know if he is still deployed and, if he is, how long he will be stationed in Iraq. We packaged up boxes the other night at the Legion and I think we ended up with at least four boxes of Beanie Babies and various other stuffed animals for his unit to hand out to the children. If you have information about him, please drop me a line. Patti Bjorklund Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Hello! Did you know that word originated from the greeting “Hail, thou” and is thought to have been popularized by Thomas Edison who suggested its use as the standard greeting to a telephone call? While earning my degree in Linguistics, I developed a particular interest in etymology of words and the history of idioms in the English language. Such a column, entitled “Words to the Wise,” would be a great addition to the Victoria Gazette. I have no rate in mind when sharing my column so any offer would be sufficient. Thank you. Stephen Messenger, via email
To the Editor: Hi, Sue. I hope you will be able to put the attached article and picture in your August issue. Thanks much. Julie Eiden Chaska, Minnesota
