Letters to the Editor

To the Editor:

Mike Wartman’s story about the trestle last month brought back some old memories.  Over 60 years ago, my dad and I went fishing in Krey’s Lake and walked there via the M&STL tracks.  This was about 65 years ago.  Why we just did not drive to the Krey farm, I do not recall.

We did not catch any fish and so started to head back towards Victoria via the tracks.  After joking about what we would do if a train should come, we started on the trestle and got about three-quarters the way across when we heard the whistle of the steam engine coming around the bend from Waconia.  Should we jump or run?  The train was not going too fast so we made it to the end of the trestle before the train did, but our hearts were really pounding.

To the Editor:

Thank you for all you do for this community, from publishing the Gazette (my favorite newspaper) to providing such beautiful music during church services to your ever present smile and wonderful personality.  You are a person I respect and admire.  See you Sunday, then I’m gone for three weeks and will be back for Easter services.  Hope I can catch up on all the music I’ll miss.

To the Editor:

Still lovin’ your newspaper.  Lovin’ you too.  Hugs.  You go, girl!

To the Editor:

Enclosed are my annual dues for the Gazette.  Pertaining to postal  service, Saturday would not be the proper day to stop service, in my opinion.  At times there would then be at least three days without mail.  Employees would have to work overtime to catch up.  That would not be a savings.  My choice would be Monday if this has to be done.

Your fishhook is on the Steve and Kathy Schmieg ad for Wilson Development on page 26.

To the Editor:

I didn’t know Pastor Franklin Jones retired and moved to Rochester.  Did he take his Church Lady poster along?  I remember him being photographed for the Gazette and he was standing right in front of the Church Lady picture in his office.

The Church Lady was actually comedian Dana Carvey’s character on Saturday Night Live back in the mid 1980’s.  I have a Church Lady poster myself.  Dana remembered that as a kid in Canada, a lady from the church he grew up in talked the same way, dressed the same, etc.  He mimicked that lady on Saturday Night Live and it was an instant hit.  A lady in my church would impersonate her and I’d laugh as did others.

To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  Bill found the fishhook right away.  I looked three times and he finally told me the page number, 26.  It’s in the Wilson ad.

Kay is a good writer.  She misses her mom.  So do I.  I helped her in the Legion kitchen a lot of times.  She sure enjoyed cooking.

To the Editor:

Enclosed is my payment for another year of the Gazette.  You do a great job and I look forward to each issue.  I found the fishhook in the Wilson Development Services ad on page 26.  Thank you.

To the Editor:

Thank you, Sue.  Blessings on your work.  Love that you knew Bill Holm of Minneota.  I admired him for a long time.

To the Editor:

Enclosed is our check for a subscription to the Gazette.  I have picked up a copy on occasion at Cub in Chanhassen and we thoroughly enjoy it.  You are a gifted editor.  Blessings on your work.
