I enjoy the Gazette very much.  So excited I found that fishhook.  I look so hard each time I receive the paper.  Sometimes lucky, sometimes not.

To the Editor:
The summer of 2007 is winding down.  People will be closing up their cabins and putting away their summer clothes and summer toys - boats, etc.  It takes a lot of gas these days to run those summer toys.
I can still remember the line of cars outside the gas stations during the gas crisis in the 1970's.  Back then the income was smaller.  You didn't hear much about four-car garages on people's homes, and there wasn't an SUV or Humvee any-place.  A Humvee is 60 grand or more and takes a big dip in the wallet to gas it up.  People have to have two incomes to pay for them.
I've heard from my neighbors at Tal-heim how their kids and grandkids have to work to support the cost of gas for a car or find a car that's cheap on gas.  The year I was born, 1965, gas was 31 cents a gallon.  Now it's around $3 or so.
But I don't know too many soccer moms or baseball moms who would want to schlep the family in a horse and buggy.  Besides, it's not cheap to take care of horses either these days.
The fishhook is on page 22 on the gas pump hose of the Dave Barsness and Cor-nerstone Insurance ad.

Harriet and I are most pleased to announce the birth of our sixth great grandchild, Carter Thomas Harms, born July 30th, 2007.  He weighed 7 lbs. 9 oz.  Parents are Jesi and Russ Harms.  All are doing well.  They live in Maryland so we will not get to see him for a while.  Jesi is the daughter of Cathy Holtmeier and the stepdaughter of Jim Holtmeier.

To the Editor:
I'd like to say a big Thank You to the folks at the Victoria Field House for their kindness during the power outage August 10th-12th.  I really needed the coffee and showers as well as the caring words from some really compassionate people.  Thank you sincerely.  Our power was gone from the first blast of wind to Sunday evening about 8:00 p.m.  I knew we were not alone.

Perhaps your readers would like to know that on September 12th, Harriet and I will be going to the airport to meet 24 members of the Andrew Peterson Society of Sweden.  They are coming from an area of Sweden where Andrew Peterson lived before coming and settling between Victoria and Waconia in an area of Lake-town Township once known as Scandia.
They will be going to many Swedish areas in Minnesota including the Ameri-can Swedish Institute, Lindstrom, Scandia in Washington County, Taylors Falls, the Andrew Peterson Farmstead, the Minne-sota Historical Society, St. Peter, and Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin.
There will be a party at the Acorn House in Victoria for them from 7 to 10 p.m. on Friday, September 14th.  All are invited.

To the Editor:
A community blood drive was held at the Victoria Field House on Monday, July 23rd.  It takes many dedicated volunteers to prepare the event.  A total of 117 pints were donated!
Special thanks to all of our callers, to the City of Victoria for use of the Field House, and to city staff for their help.  We appreciate all those who assisted on the day of the draw.  Also many thanks to the Victoria Lions for their continued spon-sorship and support.
Thanks to everyone who made this blood drive a success.  Without volunteers and donors, it would not be possible.  While the wait was long at times, we appreciate your patience.
