To the Editor: Mike has been enjoying his break between jobs. You probably know he is going to drive school bus for Eden Prairie, part time. He thought about this for a very long time and is so looking forward to it. In Brainerd he was a counselor work-ing with kids. This gets him back with kids again. He is to the point in training with behind the wheel and doing just fine. He really likes how Eden Prairie runs their transportation department, very effi-cient and congenial. The flex schedule of bus driving works out so well for us. Mike will be helping me with the gallery too. And I need all the good help I can get, being so buried with work myself. It's nice to have my hubby back, not so tired anymore from 60 to 70-hour work weeks at Nature's Bounty in Victoria. The novelty of this has not worn off and probably won't for a long time. And "this old house" repairs and maintenance will be moving forward just a little faster because Mike will have time and energy to work on things. I probably haven't mentioned that my sister and I spent around four years of research into the history of this house. We got it onto Chaska's preservation list and last March we submitted our ap-plication for national registry. I have heard it can take a while to get it through the next stage. However, after finding out the significance of this house's history (early flour milling industry), we have little doubt there will come a day when we install that brass plaque! Our place (the William Scott House … and the Chaska Flouring Mill) is strongly connected with Victoria and Carver. The Victoria House was once the Victoria Mill and was owned by our William Scott. He also held the lease for the Carver Mill (no longer standing) and ran all three shifts a day. Pretty interest-ing. We know more about flour milling that we ever hoped to through this re-search. Hoping all is good on your side of "town." Stop in for a visit some time. Sara (and "Uncle Mike") Hanlon Mill House Gallery & Gifts Chaska, Minnesota
To the Editor: Sue, I thought you might enjoy parts of this letter from Otto Dreydoppel, former pastor at Lake Auburn Moravian Church here in Victoria, especially where he writes about their daughter Sarah, just a little dark-haired girl when they left Victoria some years ago … "Sarah graduated from Moravian College two years ago. The first year she did everyday substitute teaching in the Quakertown school district. Last year she got a long-term sub job teaching fifth grade in the Bethlehem school district. This coming year she'll be substitute teaching sixth grade in Bethlehem. She'll also be the coach for the middle schools bandfront (the girls who do the flag routines). This was her extra-curricular activity at Nazareth High School and at Moravian. She says that she got the desire to be in bandfront by watching the Waconia High School marching band practice across the street when she was in daycare and grade school. "Sarah has turned into quite a re-markable individual. She's an elder at Schoeneck, teaches Sunday School, and was director of the Vacation Bible School, and we're quite proud of her. She's get-ting married to Brandon Hriniak, her high school sweetheart, on November 12th. "We've been having a heat wave here in Pennsylvania. It's been almost unbear-ably hot and humid for the last month. Our greetings to the whole Holtmeier clan. Grace and peace." Uncle Ron Holtmeier Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Hi, Mom. Great story about Darling Darlene. It says she's at the Brainerd fair, where Chris is. I'm going to tell him to find her and tell her she's in the Victoria Gazette. Chris sold another Septic Heater today. Jenny Norgaard Northfield, Minnesota
To the Editor: Good morning, Sue. I wanted to let you know that the Community Open House and Dedication of Victoria Elementary School is set for Sunday, September 18th, from 1 to 3 p.m. We'll have tours of the building available and coffee and cookies in the cafeteria. At 2 p.m. there will be a program. Superintendent Dave Jennings, School Board Chair Michele Helgen, and Principal Nancy Wittman will say a few words, and Victoria Councilmember Terry Bishop will represent the City of Victoria. I hope you are able to attend. Nancky Kracke Community Relations Director School District 112
To the Editor: I am the Scoutmaster from Troop 337. Thank you so much for recognizing the efforts of our scouts in your last issue of the Gazette. They worked very hard over the course of the Victoria Lions Soft-ball Tournament and we appreciate the paper for showcasing that work in the community. My main reason for sending this email is to let you know that one of our scouts, Dan Marsh, will be having his Eagle Scout ceremony on the 14th of this month. I would like to find out from you how I would go about having Dan recog-nized in the Gazette. He is a great example to the rest of our scouts as to the ideals that an Eagle should follow. Thanks again for recognizing us in your last issue. John Gamades, Scoutmaster Troop 337 Victoria, Minnesota Click here for more letters.
