Rod Franks (incumbent) 7669 Ridgeview Way Chanhassen, MN 55317 952-949-2903 1) Occupation. I am currently em-ployed as a Child and Family Supervisor with Carver County Social Services. As a licensed psychologist I have spent my en-tire professional career working with children and families and I am very glad to have the opportunity to serve my com-munity in my career. 2) District 112. My family and I have lived in Chanhassen for the last 13 years. 3) Family. My wife Robin and I have two children. Samantha is 11 years old and will be starting middle school this year. Spencer is 9 years old and is look-ing forward to 4th grade. Both children attend District 112 schools. 4) Interests. Both Robin and I en- joy running and try to run together most mornings. I am a member of the Chan-hassen Rotary and an active member at Family of Christ Lutheran Church. As a family we enjoy weekends at the lake, swimming, boating, and snow skiing in the winter. 5) Candidacy. Serving the communi-ty is an important value in our family. After two years on the school board, it has been gratifying to see the positive impact this service can have on the children we all care so much about. Serving on the school board has been a lot of work but it has been worth the effort. 6) Books recently read: Signs of Safety by Andrew Turnell and Steve Edwards. The authors present a solution and safety oriented approach to child pro-tection casework. For fun I just finished Naked Prey by John Sanfurd. I've read all the Prey novels and love the local touch. Books to read: (None mentioned.) 7) Luxury vs. Basics. The question really becomes, what do our learners in District 112 need to achieve their personal best? I have made a commitment to apply the resources of the District to best answer the question . Our students deserve the best we can afford for them, as long as we are responsible in the process. 8) School libraries for the general public? Our schools are a great community resource. We need to open up these resources we have all paid for to the greater community. I would like to see our schools used as much as possible, especially after traditional school hours. Learning doesn't stop when the school days is over, nor does the usefulness of District buildings and facilities. 9) Both evolution & creation? Our schools need to be places of learning and greater understanding. With an atmos-phere of openness to different points of view and a healthy respect for differences, we set the stage for students to grow into productive thoughtful members of our community. 10) National Anthem. The Star Spangled Banner is more than a song to start off the high school football game. It is a part of our history and identity as a people and a nation. It reminds us of the struggle and sacrifice it took to become a unified country. It reminds us of the struggle and sacrifice we face today to promote freedom in lands far away. As we join together and sing our National Anthem we share the responsibility and pride of being a member of this great country.
