To the Editor: I would like to suggest a story for your paper. Jim Carlson, a retired Victoria resident, spends his summers working and golfing at Deer Run and his winters creating models to scale, Scandinavian stave churches. They are works of art, and one has been presented to a museum. Since his son and granddaughter build their own dogsleds and raise their own dogs for competition, Jim is also crafting miniature sleds. His granddaughter raced in Europe when she was around ten years of age. Quite an accomplishment. Jim and Barb are a warm, outgoing couple, full of life an with lots of stories to tell. I hope you consider visiting them. Sally Hill Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Appreciate the photo of St. Victoria from the air. It was hard to imagine it from walking around in the dust and mess. Addie seems to be growing with dearness. Isn't that marvelous? Am in Wisconsin but will drop in at home this week to go to the Sunfest at St. Victoria and to speak on Monday in Minneapolis. The fall looks very busy, and with a life in two states I won't really know where my hat is. But then I rarely wear hats. Janie Jasin Wautoma, Wisconsin
To the Editor: Two Disaster Human Resource Vol-unteers from Carver County have been deployed to join the other American Red Cross volunteers from across the country, providing assistance to victims of bad weather and Hurricane Charley across Florida. Emergency Response Vehicles from Red Cross Chapters in Minnesota raced to the affected areas to join 126 other response vehicles from across the nation to provide onsite feeding and distribute relief supplies. One of these vehicles was driven by Bill and Virginia Standke of Chanhassen. Eighteen shelters are currently open for over 2,056 people. To date, over 532,262 meals have been served. Your help is needed in renewing rapidly de-pleting funds. The next disaster could be in your own backyard. Contributions to the Disaster Relief Fund may be sent to your local American Red Cross Chapter, Carver County Red Cross, P.O. Box 686, Norwood Young America, MN 55368. Thank you. LaVonne Kroells Carver County American Red Cross
To the Editor: In case you have a need for it, attached is a picture I took last year at the Touch of Bavaria of Marvin Hartman and Jeff Takala. I know this year's Touch of Bavaria is dedicated to Marv, who always helped with setup. I don't know the full history of his involvement with this Chamber event. Maybe you do, Sue. I just know that the Touch of Bavaria has been going on for almost 20 years and Marv helped start the whole thing. Just thought that if you mentioned him in the Gazette again, you might want this photo. Michele Aspelin Victoria Chamber of Commerce Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Our Grandson Mitch Williams found the fishhook in the clown suit, in the left leg, on page 11 in Brown's Touchless Auto Wash ad. He discovered it while we were driving to our cabin last Friday morning. If this is drawn please sent the $10 to him at Carver. Rosie Williams Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: It's a bird! A plane! A rainbow trout! A clown! Yup, this clown saw another clown with a fishhook hiding on its pants on page 11. And it's that time of year for corndogs, stuff on a stick, and pigging out. The ol' Carver County Fair brings back lots of memories. Every year Mom made out like a bandit. She'd have a profusion of blue ribbons for her antiques, flowers, veggies, and sewing. The car was loaded down with kids and the trunk was full of exhibits. The year of 1990 was Mom's swansong at the fair. One of her entries that year was raspberry liquor, a wine. The judges all took a nip of Rosie's Brew and it was enjoyed by all. That home-made brew was Mom's first grand champion ribbon. She died in 1991. Kay Meuwissen Chaska, Minnesota
