To the Editor: This is in regard to your City Scoop as reported in the August edition of the Gazette ... The City of Victoria logo has a prob-lem since it contains a church with a cross. This logo could put Victoria at risk of a church-state lawsuit. Also, the logo depicts a single religion to the exclusion of all others. What are the implications of a logo with religious icons to those of non-Christian faiths? What are the implica-tions for a growing community? The im-plications should no longer be ignored. Let's retire this city logo and develop one that celebrates all residents of Victoria. It's the right thing to do for so many different reasons. Candace H. Souweine, Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: I work for Friends of the Mississippi River, a group that is organizing a Storm Drain Stenciling Event in Victoria for residents to participate in and spread the word about urban runoff and pollution of Minnehaha Creek through stormsewers. I have attached a press release for the event, which will be held on September 8th. It would be very helpful if you could include this in your paper in an effort to recruit as many local residents as possible. Feel free to call me at 651-222-2193 if you have any questions. Thanks for your help. Katie Galloway, St. Paul, Minnesota
To the Editor: On behalf of the American Red Cross, thank you for your help in getting out the word about the Victoria blood-mobile. We really appreciate the fact that you get the information to the local news-papers and church bulletins. It is very helpful to reach those people who are not on our regular calling list, and I do get calls from people wanting to make an appointment. A total of 114 caring people showed up on July 30th to donate 96 pints of blood. There were 14 deferrals and 4 incomplete donations. Special thanks to our recruitment callers, those who helped the day of the draw, St. Victoria for use of the Parish Center, the Victoria Lions for sponsoring the draw and lending individual support, Chaska McDonald's for juice and cups, and all the donors who are the heroes and real success of any bloodmobile. Thanks again, Sue, for your consistent help. It's nice we can count on you. Thanks for all that you do for the community. Susan Hines and Kathy Sether, Victoria Bloodmobile Coordinators
To the Editor: The fishhook is hidden in the clown's leg on page 28. My wife Bev actually found it, so I can't take all the credit. Keep up the good work. Doug Pfaff, Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: This is my first time sending a notice of sighting the "hook." It seems to be on the hip of the clown on page 28. I'm home from surgery and have plenty of time to read the Gazette from cover to cover in one sitting. I usually get it read otherwise in bits and pieces over a couple of weeks' time. Thanks for a great paper. By the way, you should be feeling better after your "letter to the editors of the Star Tribune." Wow! Sue Swain, Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: I just said to my husband that it would be a miracle if a person find the fishhook, and I no more than said it and I found it on the clown's leg on page 28. Great, huh? Lois Kenmitz, Chaska, Minnesota
To the Editor: Please can you advise who I should contact to ask permission to include http://www.VictoriaGazete.com in the Only Yellow Pages online directory? There is no charge, but we do need their permission. Thanking you in anticipation. Ruth Townsend, Content Editor
To the Editor: Thank you for your interest in Mount Olivet West. I have been out canvassing the different neighborhoods introducing the church and myself. Many people seem to think cold calling, door to door, may be uncomfortable, but I love it. The people I've met have been warm, cordial, and downright friendly. We have just put in a new parking lot at Mount Olivet Rolling Acres to accom-modate worshipers. We will have parking attendants there on Sundays to assist people with directions. A new altar, pulpit, and worship platform was ready for our first Sunday service on August 5th. A bulk mailing to homes in Victoria, Minnetrista, and St. Bonifacius was mailed in early July. Two very talented and qualified individuals will be leading worship and music. Cer-tainly, musicians from outside our com-munity will be invited also. Presently I am seeking Mount Olivet members in Minneapolis to volunteer as ushers, greeters, and parking lot attend-ants. As we grow I will be seeking volun-teers from the community who have come forward. If you can help, please call me at 952-474-1148. As we move into the fall we will be immediately focusing on the needs for a Sunday nursery, weekly Sunday school, confirmation, adult Bible studies, and fellowship. Certainly youth programming will be essential. Please come and worship with us. I look forward to building new relationships as we together proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ. And remember to pray for this church. Your prayers will be needed and greatly appreciated. Pastor Ken Kotzer, Lead Pastor Mount Olivet Church West Victoria, Minnesota
