Chris Schaefer, son of Dick and Bonnie Schaefer of Victoria, was awarded the Richard Elliot Scholar-ship in Plant Science for the 2006-2007 school year at South Dakota State Uni-versity at Brookings.   Chris will be a junior agronomy major at SDSU this fall.  He is a graduate of Mayer Lutheran High School.
The scholarship was established in memory of Richard L. Elliot, who appreciated the assistance and service he received from the University on agricultural matters over the years.  Mr. Elliot farmed all his life in Iowa, Minnesota, and South Dakota.  A great reader of agricultural sciences, he strove to improve his farming operation through the application of scientific principles.  He was particularly fascinated by soils, soil types, and soil mapping.  A resident of the Balaton, MN, area, he died in 1993.

Team "4 Our Girls."  Sixteen local ladies were among 2,400 walkers to complete the Twin Cities Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk (60 total miles) on August 18th, 19, and 20.  The walk sup-ports the research, education, and medi-cal developments to fight breast cancer.  The team raised $44,000 toward this cause, putting them in the top ten for Twin Cities fundraising.  It was a suc-cessful walk with every team member finishing without major medical issues.  The team would like to thank all the local individuals and businesses for sup-porting their effort.  They are already planning for next year's walk.

Raising Hell-mets.  Attached is a picture of the Holy Family Fire Football team from the game on September 8th.  It's a tradition at Holy Family Catholic High School [Victoria, Min-nesota] for the entire team to raise their helmets at the start of the 4th quarter.  The rally is intend-ed to show our team's strength and resolve if we're behind in the game or our team's deter-mination to win if we're ahead in the game.  At the game that week against Belle Plaine, it worked well for the Fire.  At the start of the 4th quarter, the score was tied 6-6.  Holy Family went on to win 12-6 in a sudden death overtime.  Go, Fire!
