Scarecrows on Parade. There's a new group welcoming visitors to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, part of which lies in Victoria, Min-nesota. While the group is great at engaging folks of all ages, they're not very talkative. The whimsical scarecrows and other garden folk are on display at the Arboretum as part of Scare-crows on Parade through October 31st. More than three dozen entries were submitted from all over the state. A jury will decide on the first, second, and third-place winners in three categor-ies. All proceeds benefit the Apple Research Program. Jessica Kohen MN Landscape Arboretum Chanhassen, Minnesota

MOCA Run. The Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Association held its seventh annual walk/run September 16th. MOCA is a nonprofit organization that has awarded more than $1.3 million for research grants in Minnesota. This walk/run is one of their most successful fundraisers. It included an adult 5k run/walk for survivors and all the people who support them, and a little kids run. The pictures I sent you are of MaryEllen Timmers of Victoria, left, who is the mother of Natalie Timmers, in the outfit in the center, and me, Connie Manuel. MaryEllen and Natalie came to support me, a three-year survivor of advanced stage ovarian cancer. Natalie was a student and track athlete of mine who graduated from Waconia High School in 2001. I currently work with her mother at the high school. I am a physical education teacher there and MaryEllen is the secretary to the athletic director at the high school. Both have been at my side through my journey with cancer.
