To the Editor: Thanks for the byline last month. On Monday we are off for a trip our East with stops in Sault Ste. Marie, Ottawa, Montre-al, a week at a time-share exchange in New Hampshire, a couple of days with Pam and her family in Lebanon, PA, and a couple of days with relatives in Oconomo-woc, Wisconsin, before coming home on September 26th. I regret to report the death of Harriet Holtmeier's brother, Earl Bruder. Earl was 82 and had Alzheimer's for several years. Earl was in the 8th Air Force during World War II and was stationed in England and flew in a B-17. Ron Holtmeier Victoria Minnesota
To the Editor: Sue, you wonderful woman you!! Just read your "From the Editor" column in the September Gazette. Thank you!! When you take a stand you do it with dignity, authority, and grace. Used to argue with a son, then 12-year old Bob, who said, "Mom, it's not a baby. It's tissue." Well, the years passed, his lovely wife Jo was expecting their first child, and I got a wonderful email from then 28-year-old Bob that said, "Oh, Mom! You were so right. That's my child, not tissue." He's amazing as he ages. He's the one who says to me, "You told me so." I just nod my head. I'm so glad you wrote about your new grandchild and how abortion is the ultimate terror. Luv and hugs. Carol Notermann Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Hello, Mother. I saw your paper online and read the highlights. Basically, just your editorial. It was very good. As your unofficial quality assurance tester, I want to thank you for repairing your link to "Victoria Moments" and the links to "Calendar" and "Notes and Quotes" in the October edition. Love, Your Favorite Son, Nick Orsen Maple Grove, Minnesota
To the Editor: Hi, Sue. Thanks for the great job on my ad. Missed you at the Chamber meet-ing but heard it was Jenny's birthday. Happy birthday, Jenny. Also, thank you so much for the generous donation of newspaper space to feature Chamber members. That is a great idea and should help the community learn more about the people and the organiza-tion. Remember to mark your calendar for December 10th, 2004, for the Chamber Gala at Oak Ridge. Nan Emmer Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: In the interest of staying in touch I received information that Hurricane Frances is pounding the Bahamas with 140+ mph winds. A hurricane warning (meaning that within 24 hours hurricane conditions are likely) has been issued for the east coast of Florida as far north as Flagler Beach. Our brothers and sisters at Palm Beach Moravian Church, as well as those inland in Longwood (near Orlando) may be affected. Ofreciano Julias, pastor at Palm Beach, reports this afternoon that they are boarding up windows at the church and securing electronics, books, and docu-ments. There have been runs on the stores for basic supplies and long lines for ply-wood at Home Depot. Member families there are preparing diligently. Willie Israel, pastor at Rolling Hills Moravian Church, in Longwood, reports that they also are readying themselves, after having experienced strong winds, and loss of power for some days after Hurricane Charley, some three weeks ago. Your prayers are invited for the people of the Bahamas, Florida, and most especially fellow Moravians mentioned above. We are prepared to receive dona-tions, which will be disbursed first for relief to Moravians, and then to others through Lutheran Disaster Response. Volunteers are often needed some weeks after the storm. Pastor Frank Jones Lake Auburn Moravian Church Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: We enjoyed the story of our neigh-bors Dick and Mary Schmieg in the Sep-tember issue of the Gazette. We have been privileged to have them as our neighbors all these years. Dick, Mary, and family have helped us out many times when we needed them. There were numerous times when our cattle were out of their fences, many times in the middle of the night, and they would all come and help us round them up. All we did was call them and they were here shortly to help us. Julie would come with her brothers to help. They are always there when help is needed here. Barb would come to babysit our family many times when they were growing up and they all loved her. We are truly blessed to have such wonderful neigh-bors. Clarence and Dorothy Kelzer Victoria, Minnesota
