7) Family/fun. What does the Walsh family do for fun? Our families try to get together usually once a month -- parents, kids, and grandkids. Everyone these days seems so busy with things in their own lives they don't stop and look at the most important thing, their family. I am the youngest of three children and uncle to three. 8) City gov't in your life. The city has always been a part of my life in one way or another. My father was a city councilmember for eight years and is also a Fire Department member for over 30 years. I have to deal with city govern-ment every day in my job, and it's a love/hate relationship. 9) Spending $10 million. I would take the $10 million and use it the way the budget should be used now. If there is a pothole, "fix it." If the street needs repairs, "fix it." If the Lions Club needs help with a fundraiser, "we can help." If the Fire Department has a Fire Station with a very bad roof that leaks when it rains, "replace the roof when it's due." If Lions Park needs a new playground, "order it." And bring some business into town! 10) Cutting $200,000. The city will grow and we need to plan better for the future and spend our money better so we don't have to cut anything. If I had to cut $200,000 from the budget, I would help develop a plan to put our city used equip-ment on a lease plan or a trade-in plan. If the city buys a vehicle for the Building Department, they could lease the vehicle at a smaller cost, getting the equipment they need for the same price, getting a better replacement value, and re-ceiving a new vehicle every couple years, saving on repairs. This process could be used with the city's Public Works and Fire Department, and that is where you would save the most money because of the cost of these vehicles. As the city grows we will need to add equipment and not be able to trade equipment in. Making cuts should not completely be the city council's job. Everyone needs to be responsible in the ways the money is spent.
Dave Lindgren 8070 - 81st Street Victoria, MN 55386 Ph: 952-443-2391 1) Why running? I am running for the council because of the great love I have for Victoria. This is a very special town. It is a very high honor to be elected by the residents. I enjoy being a part of making Victoria a better place to live. People who know me trust me and I'd like to be reelected to continue that trust. They know I won't betray that trust. 2) Length of residency. I have been a resident of Victoria for 34 years. 3) Origin/attraction. We lived in South Minneapolis and had looked for a house for two years before finding our first house in Victoria on Foxglove Circle. On our first drive up Foxglove Circle, we knew it was our new home. This area was just what we wanted with lots of trees and a real country feeling. There were four houses on that hill, and we had to plow our road down to Highway 7. To this day he people on Foxglove Circle still plow the road down to Hwy 7. 4) Education/background. I do not plan on leaving Victoria while I am still alive. I was lucky to find a place I wanted to live the rest of my life. 5) Short haul/long haul? I graduated from Minneapolis Washburn High School and have 2 ½ years at the University of Minnesota. 6) Occupation. I spent 34 ½ years as a custodial supervisor for the Edina School District. 7) Family/fun. I'm married with three adult children and two grandchild-ren. Our life revolves around the two grandkids. I also volunteer weekly at Ridgeview Medical Center. I also work out at the Victoria Field House. 8) City gov't in your life. Being in-volved in city government has given me the chance to meet many people from other cities and also the county. I sit on the Sheriff's Contract Committee (three years) which will help keep down the cost of protecting residents. It gives me a warm feeling knowing that I have helped make Victoria and Carver County a better place. 9) Spending $10 million. The first thing I would do is build a new library and city office. The city has been in need of more space. It cannot expand anymore. The library is something we've talked about but never seemed to have the money. The other thing is, I'd pay off the Field House. It is my favorite building in town, and I'm there almost every day. These three things should take care of the $10 million. 10) Cutting $200,000. It would be hard to cut $200,000 from the city budget. We work long and hard each year on getting the next year's budget ready. There really is no fluff to cut. If we had to cut $200,000 we would have to cut back on some services. The council also puts money away for road construction so we don't have to raise taxes so much when we do reconstruct existing roads. A one-time cut in that fund would slow down the plan to bring Victoria roads up to a 25-year road.
Kim R. Roden 7223 Lilac Lane Victoria, MN 55386 Ph: 952-443-1866 k.roden@mchsi.com 1) Why running? I decided to run for Victoria City Council after having served on the Victoria Planning Commission for the past three years. I believe that service on the city commission is excellent prepa-raion for expanded public service in our community. Serving on the Planning Commission is especially helpful in becoming a City Council candidate because this group first reviews all development plans for our community. The Planning Commission makes recommendations about these plans to the City Council as it determines final approvals. 2) Length of residency. My husband Jerry and I moved to Victoria in 2001. We had been coming out to Carver Park for years to cross country ski and knew that we wanted to live in Victoria. We were particularly attracted to the Parkside neighborhood because of its adjacent lo-cation to the park. We looked for "For Sale" signs in the neighborhood for sever-al months but nothing ever seemed to come on the market. Finally, we asked our realtor to send out a flyer to the neighborhood letting residents know that we were looking to buy in the area. That flyer led to our
