*Mayor Bohn said he hasn't seen any monthly reports about the charitable gambling operation at Schmitty's Tavern. Neither has city staff. Such reports were promised by the new owner. *About that gravel parking space across from Schmitty's on Stieger Lake Lane, former site of Victoria Auto Body, the goal is to keep it as a gravel parking lot for the time being. Said Planner Mark Kaltsas, "We'll be doing some more plan-ning over the winter for the next phase of downtown redevelopment." In response to a question from Councilmember Mary Thun, he said, "Yes, it will be necessary for the city to snowplow that lot this winter." *Tammy Abrahamson, Victoria's Parks and Recreation Director, has com-pleted course work for her Master's Degree in Business. *Council approved the 2004 Contract for Police Service with Carver County. The estimated hourly rate is $51.22. The estimated total cost of the 2004 police contract is $112,171. *Council authorized staff to advertise for a new position for the City of Victoria to be called Administrative Assistant to the Community Development Depart-ment. Stated Planner Mark Kaltsas, "With Steve leaving, this position be-comes more important. We hope to hire in the next six to eight weeks." Adminis-trator Steve Sarvi's last full day in Victoria, before leaving for National Guard Duty in Kosovo, is September 30. *Mark Kaltsas received authorization to attend the Fall Urban Land Institute Meeting in San Francisco from October 28th through November 1st. Said Mark, "We think it's a great benefit to ourselves, the staff, and hopefully the city as well. There are great workshops in the bay area. It will be interesting to see how they're adapting to Silicon Valley falling apart. The property taxes there stay with the person buying the house. They don't get taxed out of their homes, but a lot of neighborhoods don't develop because of it." *Mary Thun reported that the tennis courts at Holy Family Catholic High School, built with a joint agreement and expenditure with the City of Victoria, are just about ready to be used. *Richard Tieden said the issue of allowing Victoria bars to be open until 2 a.m., as allowed by new state law, should be revisited in the City of Victoria, especially in light of St. Bonifacius, Waconia, and Chaska allowing the later hours. *Councilmembers approved a new pay equity report that shows the City of Victoria is now in compliance with state standards. *City Planner Mark Kaltsas has been appointed Acting City Administrator as Steve Sarvi leaves for a year of military duty in the National Guard. *Victoria councilmembers approved the 2004 LMCC operating budget that projected expenses totaling $444,608. This budget is funded by the cable fran-chise fees, not tax dollars. *Holy Family Catholic High School in Victoria received approval to conduct a raffle at the Spirit of Fire event to be held on April 3rd, 2004. *Holy Family Catholic High School in Victoria received approval to conduct a raffle for their fundraiser on Jan. 25, 2004. *A minor subdivision was allowed to clean up legal property descriptions that were part of construction projects at the intersection of County Road #18 and #11. *City Finance Director Jylan Johnson reported on September 25th that she has been interviewing applicants for the posi-tion of Assistant Finance Director for the City of Victoria. *A workshop on pay equity and com-pensation will be held on October 9th prior to the regular 6:30 p.m. city council meeting. *A workshop on permit fees in the city will be held on October 23rd prior to the regular 6:30 p.m. city council meeting. *Wensmann Homes and the City of Victoria closed on the property on Stieger Lake in downtown Victoria on 9/15/03 (former site of the 3 single family homes). Wensmann now owns that property and will begin construction any day now. According to Planner Mark Kaltsas, a sales trailer will soon be on the site and grading will begin for the townhomes.
