School Board Candidates Continued

6.  Why should a District #112 ele-mentary school be located in the City of Victoria?  Victoria is part of School Dis-terict #112 and should residents of this community request the need for having an elementary school located in the City of Victoria, their demand should be taken into consideration.  In this respect, advan-tages and disadvantages should be analyzed for an appropriate outcome.

1.
The goal of public education is to prepare our students to succeed in life after they have left our schools.  To do this they must be taught as much as pos-sible in the time that we have with them, and they must be encouraged to be life-long learners.
2.
The fluff:  If there is fluff in public education, it is what some members of the public expect our teachers and staff to teach the children that they do not all learn at home, such as manners, respect, generosity, and other qualities that should be learned at home before the children come to school.

.  How has public education succeeded?  It has succeeded in that a free education is available to all children whose families choose to take advantage of it.  School districts all try to hire teach-ers and staff that genuinely care about the students and want to see them succeed.
4.
How has public education failed? It has failed to make sure that the districts are given enough funds from the govern-ment to accomplish all of the things that should be done for the students.
5.
How do the Ten Commandments relate to values in the classrooms of Dis-trict #112?  Although we are prohibited from bringing religion into the classrooms I believe that we try to encourage those values that would result from being taught to be religious.
6.  Why should a District #112 ele-mentary school be located in the City of Victoria?  A school tends to bring a sense of community to a city.  It provides a source of pride to its students and a gathering place for the area residents.  Neighborhood schools are important and the less time students have to spend on a bus ride, the better.

1.
The goals:  The major goal that I have for District #112 is that we can pro-vide our children the best opportunity to achieve excellence in education and allow the students to perform at the top of their level by reaching the highest possible results in graduation standard testing.
2.
The fluff:  I'm not aware of much fluff in our District's education system, but after investigation into the possibility of fluff is determined, and it is determined that it exists, the taxpayers should be in-formed and then action should be taken to disperse the items back into our District and see that this does not continue in the future.
3
.  How has public education succeeded?  Our secondary education en-rollment has increased from previous years and a lot of credit needs to be given our teachers as well as our government for setting guidelines to ensure that the avail-ability of secondary and professional teachings continue.
4.
How has public education failed? The budget reductions by the State and Federal government have definitely elim-inated some of the programs that many of us feel are vital to our children's educa-tion.
5.
How do the Ten Commandments relate to values in the classrooms of Dis-trict #112?  I don't believe our students know the essential value of the Ten Com-mandments because of the deterioration and separation of the schools and church.  The Ten Commandments are great teach-ings for our students and our society.  It is a shame that the government has taken many of these teachings and personal values out of the education platform.
6.  Why should a District #112 ele-mentary school be located in the City of Victoria?  The Victoria elementary school issue has already been decided by pre-vious board action.  Although I don't necessary agree with the decision, we all have to make the current elementary school location work.  If this issue comes before the board during my term, I would support the placement of a school in Vic-toria.
