School Board Candiates Continued

2.  I don't believe there is much that should be considered "fluff" as it pertains to what may attract or inspire one person as compared to another.  One person's fluff is another person's passion.  How-ever, in an era of reduced funding and tight budgets, we must look for creative and economical ways to provide a variety of experiences.
3
.  How has public education succeeded?  I don't think it takes more than a quick look at our society and country to see the successes of public education.  It seems common to complain about our schools and society in general, but when I think of my own family, friends, and community, I am proud of and happy with what I see, and I believe public education is a contributing factor.  I am a product of American public educa-tion and I believe I was provided out-standing opportunities and experiences.
4.
How has public education failed? I don't think public education has failed so much as we have failed public educa-tion.  We are not willing to provide ade-quate funding for education.  There are parents who do not support their schools and teachers or provide models for child-ren that encourage study and sacrifice over immediate benefits and enjoyment.  Many parents have turned over to our schools the responsibility for teaching values and behaviors that can only be taught at home.
5.
How do the Ten Commandments relate to values in the classrooms of Dis-trict #112?  The parts that refer to worship and faith in God are values that are sep-arated from public education by our Con-stitution.  However, the commandments that refer to conduct can be summed up by the Golden Rule of do to others as you would have them do to you.
6.  Why should a District #112 ele-mentary school be located in the City of Victoria?  A school is needed in Victoria because it would contribute to a sense of community and identity.  However, I be-lieve the next school should be located where there are the most children who need it.  We have a very large district and it doesn't seem right that so many of the schools are clustered in a small area.  Why do some children and  neighborhoods have to sacrifice the benefit of having their school close by while others have three schools within a few miles of each other?  I have a kindergartner who spends ninety minutes a day on a school bus.  Time is money and that is a waste of it.

1.
The goal of public education is to provide quality education so those students can achieve to the best of their ability and prepare for life-long skills.
2.
The fluffs of public education are those things that do not truly add to the quality of education.
3
.  How has public education succeeded?  Public education in the U.S. has succeeded in providing access to various amounts of knowledge or skills for young and old alike.  By making attendance mandatory, it has tried to insure that all have received and met basic life skills.
4.
How has public education failed? Public education has failed to meet the in-dividual needs of every student.  There are numerous reasons for this, but large class size is a primary concern.
5.
How do the Ten Commandments relate to values in the classrooms of Dis-trict #112?  The Ten Commandments tell us how to live and respond to our God and our fellow man.  Values in the classroom of District #112 usually do not reflect on our relationship to God, but they should always "direct" our response to others (students, teachers, parents, neighbors, and such).
6.
Why should a District #112 ele-mentary school be located in the City of Victoria?  Victoria is a growing commu-nity with its own distinct identity.  Having an elementary school located in Victoria will further define this sense of communi-ty.  Shorter bus routes for young children are very important, along with more par-ental involvement in a local school..

After many years of volunteering in the community and district, I feel I have developed relationships and acquired the knowledge, understanding, perspective, and skills that would allow me to be an effective member of the Board.  The only agenda I will bring to the Board is that of a deep passion to gather together all mem-bers of the District #112 community to work together, collaboratively, and respectfully, to ensure our children, whether they attend private, public, or home schools, receive the best education our resources can provide.
1.  The goal is to ensure that all citizens have the opportunity to receive an education that prepares them to lead fulfilling productive lives.

2.  The fluff.  Although the realities of budgets require us to prioritize programs, I've actually seen very little that I would consider without value in creating well-rounded, well-educated citizens.  When the district went through the budget cut-ting process last year, it was apparent that every single item that had to be cut was providing a benefit to children.
