On Top of the World.  Ava Ewald, 7, of Victoria is a graceful little girl who found the top of their couch a perfect place to pose for the editor's camera.  Lying on the couch just below Ava is Martha the Whippet.

On Cloud Nine.  I just wanted to express my sincere thanks to the organizers and hosts of the Victoria Fire Department Open House on Saturday, Octo-ber 6th, and to the men and women who continue to keep our community a safe wonderful place to live.
We have visited the Victoria Fire Station during past Open Houses and on other special occasions and I am thankful for the kind attention given to our kids, Leif and Ava.  Leif has a strong desire to be either a fireman, paramedic, or sheriff's deputy.  At age 8 he has plenty of time to decide.  He asks a tremendous number of questions and is frequently requesting access to vehicles and equipment.  The professionals at the Open House event have always been wonderful-ly patient in answering questions and showing him how things work.  One of Leif's highlights this year was getting to sit in the helicopter that landed shortly before noon and meeting its crew (photo attached).
Leif was on Cloud 9.  We were there from 10 to 2, the entire length of the Open House.  He actually grabbed the crew and positioned them all exactly how they are standing.  I just snapped the shot.  Made me wonder if he might also look into being a studio photographer.
I am happy and thankful for this event and all those involved in its organization as it gives the kids access to people who are highly deserving and won-derful role models.  In Leif's mind, they are real heroes (and mine too).

To the Editor:  I received your request for the identity of the men in the picture in front of the Life Link III helicopter with the young boy.  From left to right, they are Kevin Marx (pilot), Greg Peterson (Flight Supervisor/Paramedic), and David Steele (Registered Nurse).  We are based at the Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie.  I hope this helps out.  Let me know if you have any more questions.

Two Months Later.  When you last checked in with this happy couple, we were picking up from Hurricane Victoria.  [Among other things, there was un unplanned skylight directly over our bed when a tree went through our roof.  It was mid August, 2007.]  Now, two months later, the results are clear.  Yes, Mildred, we can rebuild.
