To the Editor: By the year 2030, Victoria and Carver could be equal to or greater in size than what Chaska and Chanhassen are today. According to projections, not only is a new high school needed by 2010, but a third high school may be needed by 2020. We have to provide for the child-ren who are moving into our community as well as those who are already enrolled. Join me and vote in favor of the District 112 referendum on November 7th. Rick Ford, Chaska, Minnesota
To the Editor: Both Gina and I have been so thank-ful for the coverage that you have given to the building of a second high school in our community. Now we hope that voters look to the future and cast an educated vote. Judy Christensen, Chanhassen Gina Holman, Victoria Citizens Campaign Co-Chairs, School District 112
To the Editor: Here are the Top Ten Facts why the Citizens Campaign for the District 112 Referendum wants you to vote Yes/Yes to build and operate a second high school in District 112. 1) The middle schools will be over-capacity in one year and the high school in two years. 2) We want to keep secondary class-room size manageable. 3) Our communities are growing and all students deserve a quality education. 4) Building now will save money on construction costs and renting space. 5) Strong public schools mean strong property values. 6) The referendum is the result of thoughtful planning and fiscal responsibi-lity. 7) Two high schools create more opportunities for more students. 8) The second high school will be located in the heart of where most of the growth will be for the next decade. 9) Converting Pioneer Ridge to a middle school and moving the successful ninth grade program to the high schools fills two needs currently facing us. 10) We value high quality public education. On November 7th turn your ballots over - the referendum questions are on the back - and vote Yes/Yes to keep our public schools strong. Thank you for your support. Gina Holman, Victoria, MN Judy Christensen, Chanhassen, MN Co-Chairs, Citizens Campaign for the District 112 Referendum.
To the Editor: The word around town is that $92.9 million for the new high school is too much. It must be extravagant and full of frills! I did a little research and here's what I learned: *It's a big building: 405,000 square feet. This is 8,000 square feet smaller than the current Chaska High School with the same number of classrooms, so it's more efficient. *That figure translates to $185 per square foot, which is average for a high school, neither extravagant nor poorly constructed. *The basics for this size building cost a lot! For example, over $12 million for site construction, over $14 million for mechanical systems, and over $7 million for electrical. *District 112 has a history of fiscally sound decisions as reflected in Moody's decision to raise the District's bond rating to A1, which means we get better loan rates. Please join me in voting Yes/Yes to the bond and operating levies. Neil Anderson Chanhassen, Minnesota
To the Editor: I am writing to urge residents of School District 112 to vote yes on both questions on the school referendum this November 7th. The first question is a bond levy to build a new high school, and the second is an operating levy to operate the new school. Our school board created a facilities master plan a few years ago that identified classroom needs for the next 15 years. This high school is part of that plan. En-rollment growth has been right on track with projections so the need is today just like the master plan indicated. We need to pass the referendum this year to make certain our high school students will have adequate classroom space in 2009. We as homeowners have a vested in-terest in supporting this referendum. Good schools are one of the most impor-tant factors people consider when moving to a new community. Good schools translate into higher property values. My own children graduated from high school years ago, but I intend to vote in favor of this referendum. I want to be part of the solution to our growing enroll-ment needs. Someone before me built the schools for my kids. Now it's my turn to build schools for the kids of today. Yes, my taxes will go up but this is an investment I am willing to make to help our kids be the best they can be. Please join me in voting yes on questions 1 and 2 on the school district ballot on November 7th. Mayor Jerry Bohn Victoria, Minnesota
