To the Editor: Many thanks for publishing my Bass Man story in the October issue of the Gazette. The Krause House has received lots of buzz on this, and even though I got compliments on the story and the writing of it, I was reminded not to quit my day job! Marissa is working on a school assignment on the history of Victoria and wondering about the year the Victoria Gazette was founded. I see in the paper that it was founded in 1979, Were there any news publications prior to this date? If you have any infor-mation or could let me know where we could seek information on the history of Victoria, we would appreciate it. Marissa has found information on the City of Victoria website and also in a booklet from St. Victoria, but she is more interested in things like when the Dairy Queen was built, when the Post Office was opened, how long the dentist and lumber yard have been in town, when the Lions Club began. We aren't asking you to pull together a detailed report, but if you happen to have or know of a source with informa-tion like this, please let us know. Thanks. Sandy Krause Victoria, Minnesota
EDITOR'S NOTE: Every question you've asked about the history of Victoria has been answered through various of my feature interviews these past 25 years and detailed verbatim in past issues of the Victoria Gazette, which are on microfiche at the museums of Carver County and the State of Minnesota -- not to mention archived in my Gazette office. Good luck.
To the Editor: I am the coordinator for the CAP Agency's Hope for the Holiday Program here in Carver and Scott Counties. I received a fax from your St. Victoria friend Mary Riley stating that you would like to sponsor a family for Christmas. If you give me your address and how many children you would like to sponsor, I will send out the information as soon as I receive it from the CAP Agency. It is about a $30 commitment per family member. I will then send you the names of the children and the Christmas gift ideas on their wish list. You will also receive a letter of instructions for pack-aging and delivering the gifts. I will wait to hear from you. Thank you for your generosity. If there are others in your wonderful Victoria community who would like to sponsor a child or a family for Christmas gifts this year, they can phone the hotline at 952-402-4871.
