City Scoop Nov. 2003 continued

*Council approved two salary adjust-ments for city office employees.  The salary of Planner Mark Kaltsas was in-creased by $1,000/month for his addi-tional responsibility as Acting City Ad-ministrator in the absence of Steve Sarvi.  The salary of City Clerk Jennifer Kretch was also increased based upon her promo-tion to that position.
*Council approved an expenditure of $7,675 for the purchase of office furniture and computers for office space at City Hall on Rose Street for the new position of administrative assistant.  Said Mark Kaltsas, "We can make this work with the existing budget."
*The city received gambling receipts and information from the Chaska Lions, the group operating pulltabs at Schmitty's.  The profit for July was $1,288 for July and $407 for August.  (Gross receipts totaled $18,335 in July and $17,438 in August.)  Donations to the City of Vic-toria will be made "a few times through-out the year" or on a "need-requested basis" provided the charitable gambling site remains profitable
*Mike Horton, the city's new legal counsel with Kennedy and Graven, was welcomed to his first official-capacity Victoria City Council Meeting on October 9th.  "I'm excited to be here," he said.
*Council approved the hiring of Jessica Adamietz for the position of Finance Clerk for the City of Victoria.  Twelve applications were received.  Jessica, a graduate of the College of St. Olaf, worked with the City of Jordan.
*Council approved a request by Mid County Coop/Cenex to construct a sign on the corner of their building advertising their car wash.
*Mark Kaltsas mentioned that down-town businesses just received a letter about portable signs, which are not allowed under city ordinance.
*Council approved the rezoning of the home across from the Dairy Queen from residential to Central Business Dis-trict as requested by MABSSCO, who will be renovating the home into their corporate offices.
*The Victoria Fire Department re-ceived authorization to purchase an en-closed snowmobile trailer for its two snowmobiles to assist in rescue related emergency calls.  Cost is $3,369.
