Letters to the Editor

To the Editor:
Your April editorial was most appro-priate.  Thank you.  I am enclosing a copy of a letter to the editor of the Cumberland, Wisconsin, Advocate and a copy of an article from the Weekly Standard that sup-port your stand.

To the Editor:
Thank you for taking the time to complete the 2003 District 34A legislative survey.  As a legislator, I know the impor-tance of listening to what the residents of District 34A have to say.  You willingness to share your opinions and ideas with me about state government and the priorities of the Legislature is sincerely appreciated.
The survey responses showed some clear messages about how the state's bud-get should be balanced.  Over 90% of you responded that you support cutting state spending, while only 25% of responses showed support for raising taxes.  I believe our state has a spending problem, not a revenue problem, and I was pleased to see that belief mirrored in the majority of responses.
It was also good to hear your opini-ons on what the most important K-12 education issue is that should be exam-ined.  Although there was not a majority response, 50% of responses indicate that we need to increase school district accountability.
School districts, like all stewards of taxpayer money, need to be held account-able for the manner in which our money is spent and the results they achieve.  I will be sure to watch for legislation that in-creases accountability at every level of government.
As the legislative session progresses and I begin to vote on more issues at the State Capitol, the opinions and ideas you shared with me will become more and more useful.  Though they were not con-clusive, the results give me a good snap-shot of where the people of our area stand on the issues.  I have included a copy of the results for your information.
Once again, thank you for your will-ingness to share your opinions and ideas.  Please feel free to contact me if you have a question, comment, or idea.
Warmest regard,
Paul Kohls

To the Editor:
Somehow it seems my envelope for my annual subscription to the Gazette must have fallen out of our paper in March before we received it.  Anyway, a month late, here is my check for another year of excellent reading and newsy news from my hometown.  Great job!

To the Editor:
Hi, Sue.  Found the enclosed article in a recent paper.  As you see it's entitled "Newspaper Bans Use of Scripture in Church Column."  The ban was imposed because the use of Bible texts turned off some of their readers.  I want to thank you for keeping the Gazette open to the many articles that come to you.

To the Editor:
I enjoy reading your great paper.  Enclosed is my check for the Gazette.  The fishhook is on page 38 in the General Store ad.  By the way, the correct spelling of my name is Marilynn, not Marion.  Floyd is deceased. so you can correct the mailing label.  Thanks.

To the Editor:
The post office held two recent issues of the Gazette for us while we were in Florida for the winter.  It's nice to come back and find your Gazette waiting to be read and re-read.  Thanks.

To the Editor:
Hi, Editor Sue.  No one seems to understand the Crosswalk signs!  Could you please publish the rules in the Gazette?  Surely the younger generation must have learned these rules in their driver's training classes.  Thanks.
