More May 2003 City Scoop

*Council approved "trading houses" whereby the city will purchase one of the Hartman townhomes in Victoria and trade it to Julianne Wartman for the home in which she currently resides on Quamoclit Street.  The Wartman home lies directly in the path of a new downtown street planned for the future of Victoria.  In approving the motion, Mayor Bohn stated, "We've got a specific property and there's a willing seller."
*Dave Lindgren reported on April 10th that he's had residents calling him about the truck traffic in Kirke Lachen, as the adjacent Watermark development proceeds.  "We've had cement trucks, sheetrock trucks ... If 81st Street breaks up, the neighbors would like the devel-opers to pay for it."  Stated Mark Kaltsas, "We had a sign made especially for this project, a sign to help enforce the road restrictions.  I can call the two developers again to have their subs obey the rules."
*As required by the Metropolitan Council, Victoria councilmembers adopt-ed a Storm Water Management Ordinance to help protect water quality in the city.  Said Mayor Jerry Bohn, "We should be making people aware of this.  Fertilizing and mowing down by the edge of a lake contributes to the problem."
*The Schutz Lake Skiers Association received a water obstacle permit for a sub-mersible slalom ski course to be installed and operated in Schutz Lake throughout the Summer of 2003.  It gets used almost on a daily basis, but for short periods of time.
*Council adopted a resolution to sup-port moving the construction of proposed Highway 212 from the year 2013 to 2004.
*Council followed staff recommenda-tions to set the amount for the Victoria Field House Gymnasium rental fee at $25 per hour.  Upon improvements to the gym, fees will be re-evaluated.  Non-fees of those groups such as the Lions and the Chamber who contribute so much to the city will also be under advisement.
*As recommended by members of the Planning Commission, Kirk Rosenberger was appointed to fill the vacancy on the Planning Commission.  Said Mayor Bohn, who valued receiving a recommendation, "I want the Planning Commission to be an independent thinking group."
*Deer Run Golf Club changed its name to Deer Run Golf Club, L.L.C.  The club had to apply for a new wine license under the new name.  Council approved the license on April 24th.  It will have to be renewed, along with others in the city, on the annual June 30th date.
