To the Editor: We will be out of town when the city council discusses Lake Manage-ment Plans for Victoria's lakes. We have also read the article in The Victoria Gazette about "trying to protect lake quality and rights." As Schutz Lake residents since 1971, we see that the water quality and milfoil are fast changing the environ-ment of the lake. I applaud the city council for taking a good look at these resources in our City of Lakes and Parks. I am very surprised and disappoint-ed that the mayor has taken a position that the government will be taking away individual rights of landowners. It is just this lack of control that is taking away our individual rights to protect the environment of the lake. It seems to us that if we did not need crime prevention, we would not need police. If we did not have zoning laws, we would not need local govern-ment. If we did not have food contam-ination, we would not need government inspections. All of these may impinge on indi-vidual rights of a criminal, contractor, or food market but are still in the best interest of the public. It appears that for the sake of individuals, the mayor is ignoring the common good of many. I think Councilman Jim Paulsen said it all when he said, "If it's about stewardship, and taking care of these properties, then I'm all for it." And so are we. Sonja and Ken Huber Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: The Ridgeview Hospice program is fortunate to have generous and caring people who share their time and talents with our patients and their families. In 1999 the hospice volunteers provided over 560 hours of service. Respite time away, assistance with errands, bereave-ment calls, delivering holiday treats, and sharing companionship are a few of the services offered. Join me in thanking, especially, Mary Lou Erickson, Linda Scott, and Herb Strom. These people give from their heart. Sincerely, Terry Hoelz, RN Ridgeview Hospice Waconia, Minnesota
