Letters to the Editor

To the Editor:
Wow!  Thanks for sharing Victoria Elementary School news in the February edition of the Gazette.  All of the kids who participated in the Book Bonanza and the Cards for Caring will be so excited.  There's nothing quite like seeing your name, project, and school in the news!  Thank you for letting the community know more about the new school in Victoria and the terrific things that are taking place there.

To the Editor:
Hi, Editor.  This time I thought I should tell you that it took four times through the paper before I found the fishhook.  I even looked at the Drazan Accounting ad and thought it would be a good place to hide the fishhook, and then I finally saw it!  It's on page 18, in that globe, which was really neat.
The old man is sleeping as usual.  He said he really isn't sleeping, just closing his eyes.  He is so funny.  I had to check him out.  Have a good one.  I should grocery shop today.

To the Editor:
As a new resident of Victoria, I so enjoy reading your wonderful Victoria Gazette.  Victoria is a lovely, friendly community.  I feel so blessed to live here, being surrounded by new friends and the beautiful countryside.  I look forward to the day my monthly Victoria Gazette arrives.  Thank you and God bless.  It was fun finding the fishhook last month.  Thank you for my $10.

To the Editor:
Hi, Sue.  Thank you for another great edition of the Victoria Gazette.  I found the fishhook on page 18 in the ad for Drazan, Henke and Associates.  It is part of the globe logo.  Have a great day.

To the Editor:
Keep up the good job you're doing with the Victoria Gazette.  Have a Happy Valentine's Day.  Just a line to let you know I see the fishhook on the round globe in the Drazan ad.

To the Editor:
If it is possible, could you mention Paul Hartmann's death notice in the Gazette?  He lost his battle with cancer on January 20th, 2006.  His notice was in the Minneapolis Star Tribune on Sunday, January 22nd.  He was a graduate of Guardian Angels Catholic High School in Chaska.  If you need more information, would you give me a call?
I thought the notice in the Star Tribune covered his accomplishments, etc.  We lived in Victoria after our marriage on August 1st, 1953.  We have resided in Minnetonka since leaving Victoria in 1960.  However, we still have ties in Victoria; we still own our first house in Victoria.
Paul enjoyed your paper immensely and looked forward to its arrival.  Thank you.
Also, a quick note to tell you I spotted the fishhook in the February 2006 Gazette in the Drazan ad on page 18.

To the Editor:
Herman A. Gerdsen, 1857-1929, was a member of Laketown Moravian Church, now called Lake Auburn Moravian Church here in Victoria.  He was a Moravian pastor and served the Lebanon Moravian Church from 1885 to 1893.  Our daughter Pam and her husband, the Rev. Richard Thierolf, are currently serving this church in Pennsylvania.
This congregation in Lebanon recent-ly built a new church building and, while transferring items from the old to the new church, many items relating to the Rev. Herman A. Gerdsen were uncovered.
Pam will be sending me a photocopy of some of this material.  He was the brother of Mary Gerdsen, who became the wife of Bishop Clement Hoyler.  Pam tells me that Herman's papers are fascinating.
Clement, Mary, and Herman are all buried in the Lake Auburn Moravian Cemetery here in Victoria, Minnesota.  All these folks are relatives of mine.
The Lebanon, PA, Moravian Church celebrated its bi-centennial in 1947.  They published a booklet for this occasion and one of my favorite readings from this booklet is dated September, 1776, and states, "One thousand prisoners (British and/or Hessian) on their way to Philadel-phia marched through Lebanon.  Many stories with their wives and children are with them."
