It's All Relative
by Sue Orsen

Relatives abounded at the 2004 Victoria Ice Fishing Contest!
For example, the relative temperature was over 20 degrees.  The relative depth of ice was just under two feet.  Relative snow cover was four inches.  Relative number of people in attendance was 600.
Relative good cheer was evident at every turn and ice hole, especially in the relatively rosy red cheeks of the little children and on each side of the relatively large smiles of the relatively large adults.
The relative proportion of past and present firefighters working at this annual fundraiser was a good indication of continued success for the Victoria Fire Department and its endeavors for the residents of Victoria.
The relative cylinder index on Stieger Lake must have been in the triple digits.  Pickup trucks and four-wheel drives were parked all over the place, neatly of course, and the Victoria firefighters also had some of their own equipment in use, such as their Polaris Six-Wheeler, and on display, such as their 1925 Parade Truck.
As fishermen walked the plowed paths on Stieger Lake and across crunchy patches of snow, there was relative high energy in their tempo under the clear blue sky.  Relative humidity under the food tent was high as hot dogs sizzled on the grill and hot chili simmered in the pots.
Other relatives also were apparent at this ice fishing event, especially those among the Schneiders, Diethelms, and Schmiegs.  Some of the relatives were captured on camera for this photo feature.  These relatives, and many others can be viewed in Sue's Album at www.VictoriaGazette.com.  It's a good thing that some of the relatives stayed home or the ice would have never held.
For specific fishing facts and figures about this year's Ice Fishing Contest, keep an eye out for future issues of the Gazette.  But if you want to see some of the relatives, all you have to do is turn the page at this time.  (Or if you're online, just go to Sue's Album and scroll to "It's All Relative!")
