To the Editor: One of the parents on our team submitted a photo and an article for our team winning the CCHA in-league championship for the Mite program. This weekend was the Carver Cup Tournament, which is an in-house Mite Tournament and the Colts won the cup. Some of the kids on this team are from Victoria, as well as some grandparents. You know Sharon and Gary Eklund. Hope you can use this in the paper with the picture. The Colts started on Saturday by winning their first game against the Chaska Bulls. They then slipped by the Rattler on Sunday, 4-3, in a close game to go on to the championship game. The championship game was against the Chaska Greyhounds with Chase Paradise scoring the first goal with an assist from Harlan Paradise. The next goal was scored by the Greyhounds and it was tied. Then the Colts scored again from Jarred Ofterdahl putting the Colts out ahead. That is where they stayed. Kent Eklund, with an assist from Joe Pries, scored the third goal; and the fourth goal was scored by Kent Eklund winning the game by 4-1 and the Carver Cup was theirs. This cup remains displayed at the Chaska Community Center year round for each yearly Mite Tournament. Here are the names for the picture: Back (l-r): Coaches Kevin Eklund, Doug Bagley, and John Bosacker. Middle: Blake Paradise, Keegan Zimprich, Joe Pries, Kent Eklund, Hunter Bullock. Front: Jarred Ofterdahl, Sam Bagley, Harlan Paradise, Chase Paradise, and Jake Bosacker. In front on ice: Goalie Nick Harrel. Maybe mention that the goalie did an outstanding job. Lots of saves. Thank for your time and help. Julie Eklund Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Carver County was again awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its comprehensive annual financial report for the fiscal year ended December 31st, 2002. Only 10 of Minnesota's 87 counties are recipients, and Carver County has received this award for the past six consecutive years. The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada recognizes conformance with the highest standards for preparation of a state and local government financial report. Carver County Controller Fred Boethin credits his staff for their work in earning this prestigious national award. To the Editor: State Representative Paul Kohls, a resident of Victoria serving District #34A, suggested sending you the attached photo. It is of him speaking to a group of 10th, 11th, and 12th graders from Holy Family Catholic High School in Victoria during their Day at the Capitol on February 5th. The topic of the conversation was "Voice of the People: Your Role in Minnesota Government." Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks.
